Microsoft has just kindly informed me that they're going to stop supporting XP, starting with April. Now I'll have to get Windows 7 installed, and I'm really, really pissed.

Not that I can't use that crap... well, mostly. I can and I do at work, cause I have no other choice. But I hate, hate, HATE their incredibly confusing, useless Word programme. And the fact that you can't have any of the former normal, soothing colours on your screen. All colours have this eye-watering, shrill quality. God, I hate that they always change things for the worse.

I feel your pain!

(You do not want to know what Windows 8 looks like...! XDD
That's what we have at work. I hate it with a passion!!)

I too feel your pain. But for heaven's sake GRAB Windows 7 while you can. Going from XP to Windows 7 is painless. Going from XP, or Windows 7, or indeed anything to Windows 8 is horrible. I just used every ounce of influence at work to get Windows 7 on new laptops for myself and my 65-year-old boss.

My main problem with W7 is the word processor. They changed it completely, made it unnecessarily confusing, and no matter what, I can never get my documents to look how I want them to look.

That and the horrid background colours for everything.

That's very unfair. To be honest, I like Windows 7. I have a photo of a poppy as desktop and pale blue as the colour scheme. I use the free Word2010 starter Windows 8, though I utterly HATE!

I hate blue; especially Windows blue. It kills my eyes. In XP, I still can get a soft brown and brick red background, but it doesn't seem to exist in W7.

I think you can change the colours under Windows colour in the control panel.

*hugs* Totally agree about change. It is really annoying that they keep on changing everything, especially as it is usually making everything less useful. However, Win 7 is much better than either Vista or Win 8 (mostly from second hand experience). I haven't used the new version of Word, but it sounds like it is a real pain.

They totally revamped the Word menu bar. After a year of practice at work, I still can't find the things I need without help, while the menu is stuffed full with totally unnecessary stuff, and it cover the upper third of my screen.

What will happen to those who haven't updated by April?

Basically, there won't be any software updates for XP. As I just have the newest versions of Norton installed, I hope I'll be safe for a while, but after that, I won't have any other choice than to update.
