The first batch has been posted today, just because I'm deeply suspicious of the Hungarian postal service. I'd be thankful if the recipients dropped me a line when they got theirs, just so that I know the cards didn't get lost.

[livejournal.com profile] sammydragoncat and [livejournal.com profile] ideealisme, your cards are still in the making, but I hope to be able to post them early next week.

Last chance for those who haven't claimed their card yet to speak up now. I'm still taking "orders" over the weekend. After that, I'll start on the cards of Mum's friends and of my colleagues.

Oh, good! Postal services have clearly outdone themselves. I'm glad you like it. :)

Your card arrived today and it is beautiful! I hope to get better, though I was never very good, at Livejournaling in the new year. This might be hopelessly over-optimistic though, because next semester I have a module to lecture -- with 16 lectures all still to be written -- on top of the teaching and research I currently do. And one of my colleagues and I are organizing a "Women in Physics Ireland day" in March...

I'm happy that you like yours.
As for LJ, you don't have to write novels, you know. A short notice from time to time that you're still alive and kicking would suffice. ;) And LJ has the advantage that you won't have to write a dozen or so e-mails.

Sadly very few of my friends are on LJ. I was going to write "anymore", but then not having been a very active LJ:er in the first place I never had very many friends on here. The reason I spend more time on Facebook is exactly your comment: things I post there 'save' writing multiple emails. On the other hand they do very much lack the ability of threaded comments that LJ has and the feeling of being my own personal space. I very much consider Facebook conversations had in public, such as ones you might have in a busy restaurant or on a bus or train, while things posted on LJ are conversations had in the circle of just my friends.

I avoid Facebook and Twitter and all related sites like the plague. Half of my students are on them and the other half reads them, and what's posted there is rarely flattering. I'd rather spare myself the hurt of reading what they think about me. Privacy isn't something offered in great quantities on these sites.
