TV shows - still crap at second sight

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I finally broke down and gave "Enterprise" a second chance and the so-called "reimagined" BSG a first one. Just because there was nothing else to watch.
Well... I must say that "Enterprise" is the same crap at the second time as it was at the first one. The only episode worth watching was the one with the Andorians, and even that only because Jeff Combs is so good an actor, no matter what role he gets to play. The main cast is still boring and one-dimensional and the stories are flat like Eastern Hungary - and that is saying a lot.
Now, as for the so-called BSG, I can't say much else than it is abysmally bad. The only episode I could sit through was the one where Michelle Forbes played Admiral Cain - and I was firing on Cain because the main cast couldn't wake the slightest sympathies in me. They truly and thoroughly deserved to be annihilated by the Cylons - a shame that the stupid robots failed to do so. The ships are boring and ugly and everything is just grey and disgusting. "The Dirty Dozen" in space. Bleh.
The original "Battlestar Galactica" - the one and only deserving that name - might have been naive and preaching at times. But the ships were beautiful, the costumes were amazing, the good guys were likeable, and here and there you could even enjoy some plot twists. Not many, granted, but some. And they had fantastic actors like Lorne Greene and John Colicos playing the two main antagonists.
My greatest regret is that the PTB never gave Richard Hatch's "Second Coming" a chance. It would have been a continuation of the series, not twisting it beyond recognition, and he'd have brought back the original, liozard-like Cylons we never got to see for budget reasons. I'd have paid good money to see that one.
So, it's back to the reruns of DS9 and Voyager for me. A shame. I'd love to see something new once a time. Some truly classic sci-fi, with aliens and alien planets, and cool tech and stuff.

I've never even considered "Enterprise" to be a part of the original Star Trek Universe, but re-watching DS9 has always been a pleasure for me! ;)
I haven't found any exciting new Sci-Fi shows to watch either, but "Sleepy Hollows" is really quite enjoyable so far. Let me know if you'd like to check it out! :) (I was so looking forward to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." but that was a huge disappointment...no Loki! *lol*

Date: 2013-10-15 07:28 pm (UTC)I agree with you about not accepting "Enterprise" as part of Star Trek - it isn't. You might disagree with me about not accepting the movies, either (starting with the Classic movie Star Trek V), which I find generally horrendous. The Star Trek movie I would actually like still has to come. I liked the visuals of the very first one, but the plot was crap.
There is still some info around the Net about the "Second Coming", but I've lost my links during the last computer crash. *sighs*
They don't make good sci-fi anymore. Everything is about government conspirations and brutal battles, and those are both things that I find boring. They never have the courage to make something different.
I liked the premise of the old Earth 2 series, with the alien planet and the bizarre alien beings there, but they killed it for me with the idiot love plot between the female lead and the ex-convict played by Patrick Bauchau, of all people, who could have been her grandfather. Plus, both kids were annoying brats.
But there were really good ideas, like the Syndrome itself, the sleeper ships, and those biotop thingies where they rammed a device into the earth, and the plants or animals deep-frozen within went through their natural evolvement within hours.

Date: 2013-10-15 07:29 pm (UTC)I'm not such a big Voyager fan myself. I was waiting for that show so much, I had such high hopes for it, but it disappointed me on so many different levels it isn't even funny. I do like read Voyager fic, though, because it's usually better than the series was itself. ;)
