Hi folks! *waves" I know I'm late kicking off my virtual birthday party of 2013, but considering that I worked almost 11 hours today, I think I can be forgiven, right?

It's that time of a year again - I'm getting older. In this case, I'm turning 57 on October 9, so let's party!

Last years virtual birthday party yielded 1328 comments on 6 pages, before LJ crashed the whole thing, and 617 additional ones on 3 pages at the second coming. Which won't be easy to top, but we're good, aren't we? WE CAN DO IT! WE CAN BREAK THE 2000-COMMENT-BARRIER! Let's give it a try! In the recent years, it has always been great fun, so let's have fun again!

You're all cordially invited to help yourself to a slice of virtual cake of your choice. If you want to post your favourite recipe in a comment, be my guest. If not, just drop by and say hello.

Cheers!

Note: The party will be closed on October 9, at midnight, sharp. However, to avoid the same mishap that occurred last year, there will be a separate post for each day until the 9th. We will count all pages and comments together when the party is closed.

Join us and have fun! Feel free to start any thread, any topic you want; we can discuss it, mock the general stupidity of life and laugh at it. I tentatively started two topics, just to begin the fun somehow, but you may add anything you want.

That does feel to be padding! I don't understand why they decided to go for three films (other than to make money).

I know a guy who thinks Jackson did this because he has become addicted to filming Tolkien and turning the story into three films gave him one more year.

I wish he'd gone for The Silmarillion instead. Surely he could get funding to film some other Ardaverse story?

Now, you've just cursed "The Children of Húrin" according to PJ into existence. *sighs*
Or Finrod being eaten by the werewolf.

Or perhaps he'll go back to the "Lost Tales" and revives the evil, giant cat, Tevildo. Or makes a monumental epos about the Fall of Gondolin.

Suddenly I'm very, very afraid.

I'd like to see PJ's Gondolin!

The problem was never the visuals with him. Well, not always. I found Rivendell disgustingly decadent and the idea that the Lórien Elves would build spiral staircases around the mallorns utterly ridiculous.

I liked Rivendell a lot more than Lorien (too dark). I can't recall how the Elves climbed the mallorns in LotR?

Rope ladders. No, seriously!

I can't see film-Galadriel on a rope ladder!

You didn't "see" book-Galadriel on one, either. She was throning high up on the talan and everyone else had to climb. *g*

She probably has some ring-powered teleport that doesn't muss her skirts :)

Yeah, washing them would be hell otherwise, seeing that they sweep the floor severeal yards behind her.

In some ways, I think it would be interesting to see him work on some of the Silm stories - Beren and Luthien could make a very good film - and given all the different versions it would feel to me less breaking that the changes in the Hobbit.

Well, actually I'm very happy he can't go for Sil until the Tolkien Estate sells him the rights. Which may be never.

If I'm truly honest, the Sil has never been a real love of mine. I admire it, but it's never gained that bone-deep love that I have for LotR & The Hobbit that makes PJ's versions of them feel like travesties. But I can quite see that someone who loves the Sil would dread what he might come up with.

I always enjoyed "The Lost Tales" and "Unfinished Tales" more.

I haven't read Lost Tales, but I agree about Unfinished Tales. The narrative mode is more engaging, and I adore the material about the Istari & Numenor.

What's in Lost Tales?

The first version of the Fall of Gondolin, with Glorfindel looking extremely hot! *g*

I could cope with a hot Glorfindel, if I really had to :)

With Jackson's hot Glorfindel? I doubt it. You'd be hard-pressed to figure out whether it would be a boy or a girl!

I quite liked all that Last Alliance stuff with Weaving in armour.
