Hi folks! *waves" I know I'm late kicking off my virtual birthday party of 2013, but considering that I worked almost 11 hours today, I think I can be forgiven, right?

It's that time of a year again - I'm getting older. In this case, I'm turning 57 on October 9, so let's party!

Last years virtual birthday party yielded 1328 comments on 6 pages, before LJ crashed the whole thing, and 617 additional ones on 3 pages at the second coming. Which won't be easy to top, but we're good, aren't we? WE CAN DO IT! WE CAN BREAK THE 2000-COMMENT-BARRIER! Let's give it a try! In the recent years, it has always been great fun, so let's have fun again!

You're all cordially invited to help yourself to a slice of virtual cake of your choice. If you want to post your favourite recipe in a comment, be my guest. If not, just drop by and say hello.

Cheers!

Note: The party will be closed on October 9, at midnight, sharp. However, to avoid the same mishap that occurred last year, there will be a separate post for each day until the 9th. We will count all pages and comments together when the party is closed.

Join us and have fun! Feel free to start any thread, any topic you want; we can discuss it, mock the general stupidity of life and laugh at it. I tentatively started two topics, just to begin the fun somehow, but you may add anything you want.

We need more top-level comments to make it onto Page 2, so what about food?

What would be your ideal menu for a festive birthday dinner?

(We'll be eating out as a celebration, so ideas are welcome and inspiring.)

Hmm. I adore dim sum, but it's impossible to get a good selection out here in the sticks -- nowhere I know of nearer than London actually does the proper service with the waiters coming round & round with trolleys. So, an entire lazy afternoon full of dim sum, where one magically never gets remotely full, followed by... [thinks] a Thai banquet with lots of different dishes for the table to share. Wow. Now I'm feeling hungry. Will have to find an excuse to dine out very soon!

There was this wonderful place in Leicester which did all you could eat of a big variety of Eastern cuisines. Great place to go with a group of like-minded gluttons :)

I would love really good Japanese. Kaiseki (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/japan/kansai/kyoto/travel-tips-and-articles/68913), with seasonal foods for autumn. Served in a tatami room with a window overlooking trees and water:

I'd never heard of kaiseki but it sounds wonderful, and your photo is fabulous!

Oh gosh, so difficult to pick. I might join with [livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict's Thai banquet, or a Chinese equivalent, or I might go with a really high class French or Italian.

And the question reminded me of an offhand comment in a story about which I shall soon(ish) be posting an announcement at picowrimo (but not quite in time for your birthday).
