... since I'm practically imprisoned home, due to illness. But some meagre advantage has come from the new Tolkien boom. A tiny handful of people have discovered my Dwarf- and Hobbit-related stuff on FF.Net, namely "A Dwarven Yuletide", "Elf-Root", "Prisoner of Dol Guldur" and "Astonishment in Mirkwood". I haven't got a Tolkienfic review for Ages - until now!

I firmly decided to watch the films as dubious fanfic. That way, I won't be too disappointed. I hope. Because what I've read about the Dwarves so far doesn't make me very optimistic.

Oh, hell, it has Martin Freeman! And it will have the Cumberbatch Dragon later! For that, I'll endure Elrond the Creep and Radioactive Galadriel again.

If only I could finally stop this bloody coughing! Over a week without uninterrupted sleep at night is no fun. Even though last night I actually managed 5 hours of sleep - in 3 pieces.

I'm sorry your still not feeling well - but 5 hour of sleep is better than you have been getting, and you have some new Tolken reviews which is great!

Yeah, it feels good to be rediscovered, even if it only happens on a very small scale. ;)

I sympathise! *hugs*

I haven't had an uninterrupted night's sleep for years, I've forgotten what that's like, but I know only too well how exhausted not sleeping through the night makes you!

Oh, I haven't slept through the night since I had to take care for my bed-ridden Granny, who died 16 years ago. As a rule, I wake up once or twice a night - that's bearable, as I'm used to it now. But waking up every hour, or every 40 minutes, now that's hard.

Things are getting marginally better, though. Last night I was only up 4 or 5 times, which can be cosnidered as success.

Ugh, what a shame you're still sick! And that during vacation, too, woulda been nicer if it'd been during schooltime instead of eating up your holiday, if that damn flu absolutely had to infect you.

I have yet to see the Hobbit as well, so we can both still wait and see.

Yeah, life is deeply unfair. OTOH, if I had to go on sick leave, I'd lost a considerable part of my already miserable salary, as sick pay has gone down drastically in the last years, to there's that.

Thanks, I'm trying, but it's a slow process. Nothing is quite so redundant as teh common cold.

I haven't seen the Hobbit yet either (for pretty much the same reason)! But yay for the reviews! *g*

Get better soon!

Sending lots of good wishes your way. My hits went up this month so maybe the Hobbit films are the reason though the stories have neither Hobbits nor dwarves in them.

Yeah, but it turns the general attention towards the Tolkienverse again. I think I'll avoid the Hobbit section of FF.Net like the plague for a while. Don't feel up to stumble across all that inane Dwarf slash that will doubtlessly emerge in the wake of the films.

I don't have any pricipial problems with slash, as you know. I even write the stuff occasionally. But based on what I've seen in the Sherlock section, I fear the worst, so I'm not subjecting myself to that.

Get better soon! Seeing The Hobbit as fanfic is the right thing to do, and Freeman is its redeeming grace.

Actually, I was determined not to see the films at all - until I saw Freeman in Sherlock. Then I decided that I'll see the film for his sake. And to hear Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug, later. The first stands I saw of the Dwarves made it clear that it's going to be a seriously shitty film. Badfic on the big screen. What I've heard since then only cemented my fears. But I do want to see Freeman as Bilbo, so I'll go and watch.

The scene with Bilbo and Gollum is almost worth watching the entire film for. Unfortunately, you have to wait a long time to get there.

Well, Gollum was probably the only movie character worth the books in LOTR, too, so it's not that surprising.

I haven't seen the Hobbit yet either. I really want to but I was so busy with Christmas stuff and work that I couldn't find time. I may go on New Year's Day if the weather's not bad.

I have an annoying persistent cough too. I had a cold for a month and then that went away but the cough is persisting. I hear that's going around this season.
