The beginning of the exodus
Nov. 1st, 2012 01:55 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I've created a DW community for all my writings posted to LJ. It's called soledads_library. I've already imported all entries from
hiddenrealms and will continue with the import of
otherworlds_lib and
edhellondawards as well, as soon as the supposedly imported comments actually show up on the site. That may take a while.
I intend to remain on LJ as long as it's possible, because, well, over nine years are a long time and I tend to be faithful. But their major fails may drive me away completely one day, and in that case, I want my comms to be available and the comments I got saved somewhere else.
The only thing I won't be able to save over are my userpics, but, well, nothing is perfect.
PS: And now LJ is bothering me about my password, too - they find it too easy to guess. I don't want to change it, dammit! It's served me well enough all these yeards!

Date: 2012-11-01 02:02 pm (UTC)I hate the idea of losing my comments, so I guess I'll save my own fics so I at least have records of the comments I've had. I'm already on dreamwidth, but I posted separately to each site so the comments on one site don't show up on the other. I'm not technically-minded so I never figured out how to do it any other way, lol!
LJ seems intent on becoming like Facebook. I'm not on Facebook and I don't want to be, that's why I'm on LJ, because it suits my purposes . Looks like it won't for much longer though =(

Date: 2012-11-01 07:19 pm (UTC)Re paid/permanent accounts: ....no accounts will be canceled or revoked, no already-purchased paid time or paid features will be lost or anything like that. What is happening, is that we will be making some changes to the existing account structure next year. That is what these comments were referring to. This will involve changing things so users have a standard LiveJournal account to which they then can add the paid/extra features that they want separately (or feature packages/sets). The concept of buying something that's called a "paid account" is what will be removed -- extra features will be done as add-ons and add-on packages. Existing paid or permanent accounts at that time will be treated as premium/elite accounts that will have access to even more features than exist right now.
Isn't that how it already works? You buy an account then pay for extra packages? This sounds identical to what's been in place as long as I've been here.
I DO NOT like the new Friends page - or Feed as they plan to call it, which makes no sense (my Friends page is just that, I see what my frinds have posted on their journals.) Apparently it will be compulsory, we'll have no choice. Just what is it I've been paying for?

Date: 2012-11-01 08:20 pm (UTC)I'm an individual, a person with a brain who is quite capable of thinking for myself and forming my own opinions about things. Being told I have no choice is not on. I can choose to go elsewhere where my opinion counts for something. Dreamwidth is run by people who treat me like a person. LJ treats people like mindless drones.

Date: 2012-11-01 02:50 pm (UTC)I'm a lot less worried about icons. I tend to use a fairly small set regularly anyway.

[Disclaimer]: Of course this is all just if you're interested in buying dreamwidth points in the first place, but here you go:
I've been lucky enough to have a trusted friend who I send the money to (through paypal *lol*), and she then pays for my paid journal via credit card. That worked like a charm for the last four years! ;)
I' m sure she wouldn't mind helping you out as well! Or you could PayPal the money to me, and I'll send it to her.
There's also a dw community:
I don't know if you have a PayPal account yet, but it's easy (and free!) to sign up. They'll ask you for your bank account details, but you'll have the option to deny them access ( aka, PayPal can NOT draw upon your bank account - I use that!), and all you have to do to verify your account is transfer the equivalent amount of ~0,11 cents € to your PayPal account. After that you can transfer any amount for free *and* transfer it for free to other PayPal users!
...or if you don't trust online payment, mail it to me and I'll paypal it to her. Provided you trust your postal service, and me, that is! *g*
(Here's how much a paid dw account costs:
12 months for 350 points ($35.00 USD~ 7,622.19 HUF or 27,06 € ) = 100 icons
6 months for 175 points ($17.50 USD ~ 3,919.89 HUF or 14 € )) = 100 icons
There's also Premium accounts:
12 months : $ 50 USD ~ 10,887.94 HUF or 38.6501 € = 250 icons
and 6 months: $25 USD ~ 5,444.62 HUF or 19.3296 €= 250 icons )
