Birthday party at school
Oct. 9th, 2003 08:26 pmSometimes you just have to love kids. Even if they go on your nerves most of the time, they can show unexpected kindness at times.
My seventh-term class is a nice bucnh of kids, even though they often behave like three-year-olds. And they aren't all too eager to learn. And they fight a lot with each other. But otherwise...
Anyway, I usually do something funny with them when my birthday happens to be a working day. So I put on my Starfleet uniform (with Captain's pins in case you would wonder - I'm the bossy type), because they enjoy seeing me in it, and went to work.
Just as German lesson started, two of the kids produced a chocolate cake. They'd even organized forks and paper plates and paper serviettes for everyone. So I had the delightful task to divide a small chocolate cake into 16 identical pieces, which was the soruce of much fun, with chocolate cream filling being smeared over just about everything on my desk, which had to be cleaned with the sponge we usually keep for clening the blackboard. (Yes, we still write with chalk on blackboards over here, at least the teachers do.)
After that, we ate the rather miniature pieces of cake, cleaned up the mess and san questionable German songs that I'd leanred from my Grandpa when I was a little girl. It was great fun.
My other lesson today was with an eighth-term-class. They are not the brightest lights on this planet - I keep telling that the whole group has one single brain cell and they reach it around in the breaks so that everyone can own it for a little while. We played word games with them - this is about the only thing they enjoy from English lessons. They liked my Starfleet uniform, too, especially when they found out what it was. Took them only half an hour or so, putting the knowledge of all 12 of them together. *g*
All in all, I had a good time. Mom and I had celebrated yesterday, because she didn't work on that day. We had a beautifully-laid table, with the lace tablecloth and the best china from my great-great-grandmother and grilled chicken which I love and alcohol free champagne, as Mom can't drink because of her medication.
Also, Archet made me an Elladan/Boromir photomanip that can't be topped in absolute yumminess. *gulps*
And today I found out that Earonn wrote a wonderful birthday fic for me, and that *two* people actually reviewed the new chapter of the Mirkwood story. It's not as bad to become older as it felt two days ago.

Date: 2003-10-09 07:50 pm (UTC)See, children are great, they just don't know enough to show it properly. Just think of all the kids you have influenced. That's very valuable. Not everyone can do that.
It's always nice to bring out the good china. Glad you had a good meal to celebrate!
Now, I'm off to see that picture you've been talking about.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
