Working on Chapter 4 in the morning, the dratted plot has taken an unexpected turn. Now it seems that I'll have to relocate some of the events to Torchwood House and add a subplot of government (or rather UNIT) conspiracy to the story. I never intended to do that - unfortunately, it makes a lot of sense. *sighs* I hate when the plot does that.

Anyway, excerpts:

#1
For a supposedly decadent nobleman in his late forties, Sir Archibald McAllister, the leader of Torchwood Two, seemed almost inordinately chipper at such a lage night meeting. Of course, the one-man Glasgow branch never had to face the same challenges as the Cardiff one. All Sir Archibald call-me-Archie had to do was to supervise the Secondary Archives hidden under his own mansion, watch over the Loch Ness monster and occasionally visit Torchwood House, where some of the most dangerous and secret stuff was stored.

#2
The video feed displayed on the big screen of the conference room showed him in his library: a spacious, vaulted room, each wall of which lined with old shelves, beautifully carved of dark, polished wood. Each shelf was laden with books of various sizes and ages – from hand-written medieval codexes that had been in the psosession of the McAllister clan for centuries to the newest editions. The latter ones were all about history or such practical topics as digital cataloguing or the best way to conserve old books and archaeological founds.

No matter how much I'd perfer to work on the Elfhelm story, this one seems to write itself at the moment, and I must swim with the tide as long as it lasts.

It sounds like you are making a lot of progress on this - and it certainly makes sense to work on the story that is flowing well :)
Great excerpts: yay Loch Ness monster, great description :)

Well, the Loch Ness monster is canon. It's a Fourth Doctor adventure.

You should try posting excerpts to your journal, too. Then we could discuss them, and perhaps we both could make more progress that way.

It didn't know it was canon - I've not seen much of Old Who, although am slowly watching it, but still on First Doctor stories.

I will try that, when I have anything to post - although at the moment, I need to stop distracting myself with irrelevant research (but there is some much interesting to read about)

I've seen exactly one episode with the 3rd Doctor and a couple of the ones with Tom Baker, and that's all. I don't really get them here, unfortunately, and neither do they sell them in Vienna. It's just so that the Loch Ness monster was in an episode with Harry Sullivan, whom I love to pieces, so that's why I know about it.

Is there a reason you have placed Torchwood 2 in Glasgow? Since the English and Welsh branches are in the capital cities of London and Cardiff, I had sort of assumed that the Scottish Torchwood would be in Edinburgh if it wasn't at Torchwood. That isn't to say that I am right of course, but I would probably expect some sort of explanation, even if it was only a throw-away comment...

P.S. I do love your description of the library! I want it! Please, can I have it?

Torchwood Glasgow is canon, I'm afraid, and so is Archie. Jack mentions TW2 to Gwen-bloody-Cooper in the pilot as "only an office in Glasgow" and a "strange little man". I decided to build out Archie a little more.

Re. the library. When I still used Win95, it had a screensaver theme "Sherlock Holmes" and it showed a library like that. All dark and mysterious. *g*

That's what you have to work with then; nothing like messing up canon to get fans upset! Still that is going to bother me: Why Glasgow? I suppose you could argue that they only put the Welsh Torchwood in Cardiff because of the rift, so that isn't really establishing a capital-city location...

No idea why they put TW2 there - perhaps Glasgow was easier to spell for the idiots in charge? Anyway, I don't know if TW2 is really supposed to watch the Loch Ness monster, but since they are the only TW branch in Scotland, I took some creative liberty there. Nessie herself appears on Cassic Who (something with the Zygons, Tom Baker era), and I couldn't resist at least mentioning her.
