I HATE the new look of FF.Net! Everything is pressed into the middle of the screen, big, empty spaces on either side, stupid avatar icons taking up so much space that they don't even match the story they belong to... why the hell did they do that?

I hate it too and am sure comments and views are down as result.

It looks terrible. Today when I went on, they've changed the order of the titles within each category so they're in order of how many stories have been posted instead of alphabetical order. This makes no sense and makes it difficult to find any category without scrolling down long lists of titles. Are they trying to drive people away from the site by making it more difficult to navigate their site? No wonder some people are abandoning their site and going elsewhere.

The Sorted by Popularity thingie isn't new. Fortunately, they give you the chance to filter by name in the same row. All you have to do is to click on the letter of the ABC, and within that, you get the alphabetical order.

I find the new layout a lot more annoying. It's so wide that the pages don't fit on my screen (not even the empty spaces on both sides), unless I choose afon't size I can't actually read. Grrrr!

IKR? Looks like they are going commercial. I'm pretty sure those *empty* spaces will be filled by ads sooner or later...

Do you have an AO3 account? If you don't I could ask my flist for an invite, someone is bound to have one (or more!).

My problem with AO3 is that they accept RPF. I don't post to any archive that accepts RPF, on principle. I even pulled all my stuff from the Library of Moria when they established their RPF category. I find RPF morally questionable - to put it mildly - unless the RP in question has been dead for at least 300 years.

But if FF.Net continues to screw up so monumentally, I won't have any other chance than give in. So I might return to your generous offer. *sighs* So much about principles.

I have to admit I never paid much attention to RPF. But I just searched FFNet, and there's 418 pages of RPF as well...I think the only Tolkien archive still active without any RPF is Stories of Arda! And best of all, you don't even need an invite! ;)

That's strange. IIRC, FF.Net TOS still forbids RPF - how have so many peiople managed to slip through? Or have they changed their rules again? Not that that would be surprising, mind you.

As for SoA, I've been a member for many years and posted a lot of my Tolkienfic there. Unfortunately, they don't allow slash or any high-rated stories or crossovers, which means half my stuff isn't eligible there.

And SoA still won't take care of all my other fandoms. So I might have to migrate to AO, after all.

Why does FF.net do anything? "We break things that work just fine as is!" should be the site's motto!

I know this post is late to this discussion, but, the change in format at FFN is so it will look good on tablets and e-readers. The rest of us using the site on lap tops and pc can all just go to hell I guess,
