Kassa (Kosice) was quite the disappointment. It's a place every Hungarian should visit once a life, due to its historic significance - FYI, Prince Ferenc Rákóczi II, the one who led the great war for freedom from the Habsburgs in the 18th century and died in exile after half a century in Turkey is buried there - but that's about it. I don't care that it will be the world's cultural capital next year; it wouldn't be worth a second trip.

The Christmas market was barely worth the name. They sold about four types of food and mostly plastic decoration made in China. All in all, while the historic places were interesting and some of the buildings pretty, we have almost regretted to make the effort of the long bus trip.

I'm a but unhappy about it, as it was supposed to be Mum's Christmas present. *sighs*

Ah, that's a shame. You've been so lucky with your travels and day trips in the last years, I guess a disappointment had to happen sooner or later :(

Maybe the historical sightseeing will at least prove inspiring for fic writing?

Not really. It's a historical period that's beyond my true interest. But it *was* interesting nonetheless. I do think that we ought to visit the memorial of our heroes once a life.

Yes, it wasn't a well-organized trip. Mostly because there was so much wasted/unused time. The travel agency sent two busses full of people to this programme at the same time, so that we even had to wait for each other all the time (100 people are a lot), not to mention other groups that showed up at the same sights (there are exactly three such sights in the entire town).

The Christmas market was rubbish, and giving 4 hours of free time on a day trip is unreasonable. Especially in a town that they show you within two hours everything worth seeing. Ah, well, it could have been worse, I guess.

Yeah, that sounds like a badly organized trip. Was the trip with the same travel agency you usually travel with?

No, it was one I never heard from before. I wasn't the one choosing the trip, either. We had started this tradition with a few colleagues to visit a different Christmas market every year, and the one who does the actual organising spotted this trip called "Advent in Kosice" and thought it would be a good match, especially as it included showing us the sights of historical importance. She teaches history, naturally. *g*

But it was not her fault, she couldn't know it would be such a lame thing.

Ah well, at least you've learned now to avoid that company. Better that disappointment happened with a day trip than with a longer one.
