Back from Vienna, with Good Things (TM)

Thank you all, friends, for the good thoughts - Mum and I had a very nice trip. The weather was fine, aside from the fact that we were clad a bit too warm for it (especially the shoes), but that was truly the only sour drop in the whole thing.
We had breakfast at Anker, as always (for all foreigners: it's a bakery chain that serves gargantual breakfasts, so you don't need to find food for the rest of the day). Then we started the Great Hunt for baking ingredients. Hofer was a "Schuß in den Ofen" as the Germans would say (sorry, I know no English equivalent), but right away at Billa, we found the Johannisbeergelee. I must admit that I got a bit carried away and bought four(!) cans of it, 700 grams each. But they're supposed to keep until late 2013, so I'll be covered for the next two years. Yay!
Then we went to visit St. Stephan's Cathedral, which we do every time we're in Vienna, and turned a round in the only still existing Julius Meinl grocery shop, which we also do every time when in Vienna. We walk around, admire the offer - and buy nothing, cos it's a slightly too expensive place. *g*
Afterwards, we went to the Aida Café, next to the cathedral, to have coffee and some cake - another tradition we observe each time. And then to the Gerngroß department store, which has the biggest sortiment of DVDs in the city, or so the aborigines say. Unfortunately, they rarely keep things I'm interested in (and don't already have).
I was hoping to find the first season of BBC's Robin Hood, the first season of the Murdoch Mysteries, eventually Camelot (yeah, I'm into self-punishment, but if they had it in sale, I might have given it a try. They didn't have it), possibly even Firefly, despite my misgivings. I found none of those, alas, and Merlin won't be available for another half a year or so, I guess.
We bought some more baking ingredients in the supermarket of the department store and then went over to the other side of Mariahilfer Straße, where the biggest Müller dorgerie is. They, too, have a huge offer on DVDs, and I finally found the 2nd and the 3rd seasons of Primeval on sale, for the best price I ever got a TV series for in Vienna.
I ways eyeing Season 3 of Heroes, but they didn't have a boxed edition of it, so I decided not to do it, although I'd have liked to see how Mohinder is transformed into a spider. Sort of. But the price wasn't reasonable for something I'm not all that enthusiastic about, so... perhaps I'll manage to catch and record the season on German TV. They show random episodes on RTL 2, but so late that I can't stand up to record it, and programming isn't any good, as they don't keep the start times given in advance, and the commercial breaks are full of disgusting sex ands at such a late time.
All in all, it was a very nice day, and we brough home a few things we like, including Laugenbrezeln and Almdudler, which are very Austrian things, so I can't really explain them. Now everything is ready for the Big Baking Orgy(TM), which will start at the weekend with the producing of a honeycake house (Knusperhäuschen for the Germans among us). Which I'll make of a Dr. Oetker Backmischung - that might be blasphemy, but it makes things a lot easier. *g*

Date: 2011-10-31 10:18 pm (UTC)I saw a few movies with dragons that might have been interesting from the making aspect, but they should have been a great deal cheaper for me to actually buy them.
