Life is so full of joy nowadays!
Sep. 19th, 2011 10:59 pmMy main PC is back. It seems it wasn't a virus, after all - my HD died, and I lost everything on it. A good thing that I regularly save stuff onto CD, but it will be a long and gruelling work to put everything back up again, starting with older stuff and gradually adding the newer one. I'm so not looking forward to it!
My bookmarks are gone, all of them; some of them I've saved to my Yahoo Groups, but unfortunately not the newest ones. Of course, those would be the ones I needed most. Joy!
Plus, IE is ten times slower, for some reason, and computer guy put on Microsoft Outlook instead of Outlook Express. It confuses the hell out of me. Will talk to him to put OE back. I don't care if MO is better - I want to be able to operate it, dammit! There are several hundred other things that look-work-don't work differently, so it will be such a delight sorting them out - NOT!
Oh, and the whole thing will cost a fortune, too! We're apparently having the phase in which household machines are dying on us, one after another. Mum's electric broom swallowed thrice its original price due to repairs last week. It would have been easier to buy a new one - only that they no longer make these, and she needs it. She cannot move the hoover around anymore, and I don't have the time to clean the frigging flat as often as I should have. *sighs* So she does minor cleaning in-between.
School's gruelling at the moment, and the weather isn't helping. Am very tired.
Wrote some more Merlin stuff. Am actually quite happy with it. Will post Ch 09 as soon as I've typed it up, even though the person who's been pestering me for an update for months couldn't be bothered to comment on Ch 08. Ah, well, what's new?
OTOH, there's at least one good thing to look forward to:
ithilwen is coming this week. Yay!
Gah! Tired and frustrated now. Clearly, I'm getting old.

Date: 2011-09-19 09:07 pm (UTC)Did you check if the data can't be saved? When mom's laptop's hard drive died, the tech man could still transfer the data.
I wish you the best of luck and hope that the gruelling process of putting everything back together goes quickly and the loss isn't quite as large as it sounds right now.
*more hugs*

Date: 2011-09-19 10:50 pm (UTC)Fortunately, I've got copies of almost everything, save from the most recent research stuff and pictures, but it'll be hard work to get everything vaguely the same way it was.
And then I'll still have to get the guy to do something about the speed...

Date: 2011-09-20 10:43 am (UTC)I know it's not going to help you now, but in the future, I recommend you an external hard drive. I recently switched from CDs to that, it's easy and you can copy all your personal folders in the time it takes you to burn the latest files on CD.

Date: 2011-09-20 04:18 pm (UTC)At least I had my vengeance on school. Since I had to sit there for 3 hours needlessly (long story), I commandeered one of the shared PCs and typed up all my Merlin stuff. I guess the others weren't exactly happy, but as some of them tend to play solitary on the computers for hours, they can't complain about me actually working on one of them. Even if I did m own stuff.

Date: 2011-09-23 01:50 am (UTC)If you want bookmarks for things I might have, just ask, and I could cut-and-paste them into an e-mail, perhaps saving you a tiny bit of work.
Do enjoy your visit with ithilwen!

Date: 2011-09-24 07:06 pm (UTC)As for bookmarks, I'll first e-mail myself the ones on my laptop (as soon as I find the necessary energy). Then I might still as you. Thanks for the offer.
