30-Day Fanfic Meme - Days 22-24
Aug. 3rd, 2011 11:11 amI've been negligent with these entries lately - too much RL stuff going on. Anyway, here I am with a new batch, determined to finish the meme before we'd leave for the UK.
Day 22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
I participated on a few Kavanagh and Zelenka ficathons in the Stargate - Atlantis fandom, but not very often. Basically, because I'm not good with deadlines, and it's hard for me to write anything short.
Day 23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
I post everything to FF.Net that matches their ever-changing rules. My Tolkienfic, I also post to the TFF Archive and to SoA; not that I'd have written anything for the fandom for a year or longer. I've got 3 writing comms on LJ:
edhellondawards for Tolkienfic,
hiddenrealms for fantasy, horror and my original writing and
otherworlds_lib for science fiction. In hindsight, it was stupid to create three different comms, but I can't undo it now, as it would mean to lose all the interesting conversations via comments.
Day 24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
Finding beta readers is hard for me. I'd mostly need them for correcting my whacky grammar - English is such an illogical language! - and look for continuity errors, as I tend to work on a story for years sometimes. Unfortunately, not many people have the time and/or the interest to stuck with my stuff. I've got Torchwood stories that got abandoned by four different betas! So no, no luck with betas, most of the time.
The shining exceptions are Larner from the Tolkien fandom and
the_wild_iris who heroiceally goes through my Merlin fanfic. :)
