30-Day Fanfic Meme - Days 18-21
Jul. 31st, 2011 10:44 amI'm trying to speed up the process a bit, in order to have all 30 days done before I leave. So, on we go.
Day 18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
It's different. Sometimes it's a picture I see somewhere. Sometimes it's a finished scene that jumps into my head, out of nowhere. Sometimes it's just a title that occurs to me and demands a story. But I very often get inspired by other people's ideas, who don't want to write the actual story themselves. My greatest inspirations in recent times have been
aeshna_cyane and
weis07 in the Torchwood fandom and
artemis10002000 in just about any fandoms we share. Thank you, ladies!
Day 19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
It depends on whether I have the time or not. If I do, I usually sit down and make a first, rough outline of the story I want to write, perhaps even write a few disjointed scenes that seem very clear and that I don't want to forget. If I'm busy, or it's really late, I just wirte down the idea for further use. I'm known to get up at 3 in the night when I wake up with a story idea, because it might be gone in the morning.
Day 20 –Do you ever get bunnies from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
Oh, yes, all the time. Although rather in the manner of "well, it would be so much better if done this way..." What can I say? I'm horrible. *g*
Day 21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
I tend to write ungodly long series, so sequels are kind of inevitable. In the Tolkien fandom, practically all my stories are part of a bigger picture, with the sole exceptions of The Joys of a Beard, which is a deliberate Mary Sue parody, and Seal On My Heart, an AU with a different Fellowship and the not-quite-hidden intention to get rid of Aragorn and have Boromir live and rule. That story even has a sequel, Annúminas, my only LoTR Mpreg, which earned me a proud place in the Worst of Tolkien Fanfiction comm on FF.Net. *is proud*

If you tell yourself to leave the scenes for later when you actually have the time to write the story, they never turn out as well as when you write them down right away when you feel inspired. I'm still impressed that you do an outline right away, though, it always costs me so much self-control to sit down and outline.
AU with a different Fellowship sounds interesting, I'll have to check that out sometime (though it'll probably take forever *sigh* I just can't seem to keep up with the fics being written, my bookmarks list just keeps growing.)
