Went to Vienna with Mum and a few colleagues yesterday - it has been the best fun for a long time.

We rode the train, and the girls (aged between late thirties and late fifties, just to get that part straight) had started on the spirits as soon as the train departed the railway station. It wasn't that they drank much, mind you; we were just at very high spirits. Even me, without alcohol. I took some of my freshly-baked cookies with me to feed the girls between rounds. The train was poorly heated; other passengers sat in their cabins in warm jackets and hats on their heads. Our cabin was so pleasantly warm that we all but sat in our shirtsleeves. And we giggled so much it could be heard on the other end of the wagon.

In Vienna, I made a little sightseeing tour for them; just a bit of cultural programme before we'd hit the various Christmas markets. It was fairly cold, it even rained at times, so we had to drink some eggnog punch - yes, even Mum and me, although we hardly ever drink anything with alcohol in it. But it was cold, okay? We also visited various coffee houses and bought little presents for friends and family. All in all, it was an exhausting but delightful day.

On our way back, we didn't have a cabin for our own - it was a long, modern wagon, but we sat in two opposite four-seat-parties and had great, silly fun. The other passengers were probably nerved by us, but to be honest, we didn't really care. The girls didn't drink on the way back, as some of them had to drive home after the journey, but we still had a very great time. The other people in the wagon probably didn't, but who cares. Our nerves are so frayed around the end of a term, we needed the outlet. And we didn't hurt anyone. We weren't that loud, really. We just giggled a lot.

Oh, and I got Swedish chocolate from [livejournal.com profile] disthrainsdotte. I'm pleased that she, too, got my little prezzie. Now I only have to worry about two of the seven small parcels I sent on their way. Christmas is fun, folks!
