Finally! I love Stargate and Babylon 5 reruns, but after a while you get to the point when you know the dialogues by heart, and it just isn't as much fun anymore as it used to be.

So, in the spirit of renewal, I gave several new series a try. Below the results.

Paradox

I had high hopes for the show, but never got beyond the first episode. Opted out in the middle of the second one. I'm sorry, but the series is just boring. The blonde detective lady has the vitality of a wooden statue and the geek lead character is simply neurotic and annoying. Liked the greying, bearded detective, but not enough to watch the show just for him.

The godawful German dubbing could have a part in the fail in my compartment. I prefer dialogues that I can actually understand, spoken by people who are at least semi-articulate.

The Forgotten

Has just started on Kabel 1. So far, I like it a lot. The different concept is refreshing, and even though the regular female characters are mannequin-pretty, which I always find a bit annoying, it has promise. Will give it another try next week.

From the German productions, there's "Mit Herz und Handschellen" as well as "Der letzte Bulle", both fairly silly cop shows, but I love them. Mostly because of Henning Baum, who's the lead actor in both shows; a gay one in the first one and a macho with a heart of butter in the second one. A bit stereotypical the latter, but funny nonetheless.

Eleventh Hour

Is on re-run again. Not the greatest show in the history of television, but it has Rufus Sewell, which is enough reason to watch it. I'd watch him reciting the phone book and looking at me with those beautiful eyes of him. Yeah, I'm that shallow. So what's new?

Shows I could never get into include:

- Supernatural - I watched half a dozen episodes, hated the main characters and was bored by the whole thing to the death. Yeah, I know it's incredibly popular and I'll probably be lynched for my opinion, but, well, that's what happened to me.

- Smallville - the Superman actor did it for me. I didn't last beyond ten minutes.

- Life on Mars - my British friends loved the show, but I couldn't endure it beyond the first episode... and that one was hard for me to watch, too.

- Ron Moore's version of what he has the cheek to call BSG. Had he come up with a sci-fi show of his own (what he actually did) without abusing a few names of my all-time favourite, I might have watched and even liked the show. So it's simply a blasphemy in my eyes.

Shows that I started off liking but dropped off after a while include:

- Criminal Minds - liked the crew dynamics, loved Reid, but as the stories were getting more and more brutal and disgusting, I simply no longer had the stomach to watch.

- Lie To Me - the concept was interesting, and there was Kelli Williams, whom I love, but the stories were getting repetitive and the plots dragged along painfully, so I gave up.

- CSI - all versions of it. After a while, I just couldn't care any longer.

- NCIS - liked Gibbs and loved Abby and Ducky, but couldn't endure DiNozzo anymore.

Shows that I more or less missed because Hungarian TV is abominally stupid and can't leave the original title, so I never know what I'm missing include:

- Being Human - people say great things about it. When I realised it was running on Hungarian TV, I'd already missed most of the season b/c of the horrible Hungarian title.

- Blood Ties - about the same. Fortunately, German TV brought it along, too, so I could catch up with what I'd missed.

That's all I can think of right now. What's new on the telly in your corner of the world?

Yeah, I know. I just prefer watching things on TV. My main PC has a very small viewscreen, so it's killing my eyes, while my laptop has a decent screen but can't produce enough volume to actually understand the dialogues. So I'm either watching them or listening to them- *g*

So, you liked The Forgotten, too? I was so disappointed with Paradox, I like me a good mystery, but this wasn't one.
