The German private channel Kabel 1 is currently re-running "Primeval". I only saw Season 1 at the first time and loved the series. Now that Season 2 has started last weak, I'm getting decidedly unhappy with it.

It's like "The X-Files" all over again. When both shows were mostly about the "monster of the week" and how to beat it, I loved them. Character dynamics were interesting (for me anyway), and I liked to bite my nails and fire them on to find a solution to save the world. Or the town. Or whatever happened to be in danger.

Now that evil government officials and secret conspiracies start taking over the show, I'm not sure I'll watch "Primeval" to the bitter end, either. Just as I've stopped watching "The X-Files", when government conspiracy became the only factor in the plotlines. I'm so not interested in evil government conspiracies, idiotic/sadistic government officials and that sort of dreck. Why can't they give us a nice, simple adventure show?

The monsters in "Primeval" would be interesting enough to keep everyone who doesn't want to get depressed ten minutes into the running episode in front of the screen. And the characters are quirky enough to provide good entertainment. So, why in seven hells must this turn into one of those overdone conspiracy stories?

I watched and enjoyed the first season of Primeval when it was on here in the UK, but the way they ended the season pissed me off and I could never even be bothered to watch the second one. The whole government conspiracy theory thing in X files turned me off as well; it is also one of my main reasons for not liking Babylon 5 much. If I wanted stories of how the politicians are all back-stabbing bastards I would watch the news!

My thoughts exactly. Which is a bit hypocritical from me, considering that I did write a good portion of evil conspiracy in "The Lost Warrior" - to my own defence, though, the bad guys will all be exposed and properly punished in the sequel. Which never happens in these series.

Really? I have to say I loved the conspiracy arc, while some of the "monster of the week" episodes were not as fascinating to me. But then again, others were really great.
I recently zapped into an episode by accident, and of course stayed to watch. The funny thing is rewatching these old episodes now and comparing them to today's technical gadgets, etc. like cell phones and so on. But the episodes really rose memories. :)
