In the middle of uploading a file, it suddenly send me an internal error. connection to the server terminated message. Are they killing the groups as well as they've killed Geocities? Because that would piss me off royally. A decade of my work's worth is safety-stored in the Files sections of my various groups.

Odd, yes. I just replied to a message on the MEFA group, but it's not there and there are no posts newer than 24 hours. Weird, but probably simply caused by too much traffic on Yahoo due to the holidays.

It's blinking randomly on and off - I've never seen anything like this in a decade. Must be a but or a server error. I hope they can fix it, eventually, without us losing all our stuff.

Your icon is beautiful. Is it a personal one or can be downloaded from the MEFA site?

I do hope they fix it!

The icon can be downloaded, yes - it's a standard type available to all nominees.

Did you find one you liked? The one you're using in this thread looks great!

I haven't quite decided which 'award' icons to choose yet (the ones in the above posts are from earlier in the MEFA process).

I wasn't there yet. I've won this one honestly, two years ago.

Yeah, I hope it's a temporary glitch.

Sounds like a server glitch. Yahoo would announce in advance if they were terminating Groups.

For safety's sake, though, you should find another place besides yahoogroups to back up your old work. I suspect if Yahoo ever does shut down Groups, they will do it more quickly than they did Geocities.

Oh, I do have almost everything saved to CD. It's just so that I can't always keep up with the saving part... not necessarily where my own writing is considered, but with background facts and suchlike which I'd hate to lose.

Not to mention some of the interesting conversations that took place on those lists.

I'm not sure this is relevant, but I've been encountering that error message pretty regularly just trying to log into my Yahoo e-mail. I assumed they were just overloaded and need to get some more servers or connections or whatever.

Just a hint...Never trust anyone with your precious data, buy yourself an external hard-disk (or two) for save keeping it. Store your data there, then put it safely away and don't use it, only for backups of your data (once a week or every two nights if you do much...), put the hard disk in a cupboard somewhere and think of it only to make your backups.
If you have enough money, make a second backup of your data every week and put it in a cupboard of a friend (if your house burns down, you may only loose the data of one or two weeks (depending on your frequency of backups), which would be bad enough but not a real disaster). Put all your stories, your photos and all your crucial unrecoverable data on it. You wouldn't have to think about your data on top of your personal disaster...
