Pre-X-mas shopping
Oct. 12th, 2009 09:18 pmDon't laugh, people! The fact is, we of public employment, or whatever it's called in English, sometimes get fringe benefits - for example so-called culture cheques that, unfortunately are only accepted in very few, special places. The Hungaroton record shop is one of those places. So I went there on Saturday morning, to see what I can get for my cheques, hoping that so early before Christmas, I'd actually find something useful.
And I was right. I bought a wagonload of CDs, some of them were even on sale, and a few DVDs, too, as Christmas presents. I'm very angry that I can't send DVDs to my American friends, since we're in a different zone, and they wouldn't be able to watch them.
*shakes fist at the idiots who came up with this zone thingy*
But I got very nice CDs for them, and thank God, the UK and the Netherlands are in the same DVD zone, soooo... I'm so looking forward to finally be able to give people something they might like, instead always just get things for them.
I think I'll post them all on December 6. It's St. Nicholas Day, and over here St. Nicholas is well known for bringing presents. Besides, that would mean that I might get the prezzies on their way before the Christmas maddness causes the usual postal service chaos.
Of course, I also bought a few for myself. The DVD I got was the movie "Merlin and the World of Dragons" (or is it War of Dragons?), featuring Jürgen Prochnow. Well, it's... erm, not necessarily the height of the interpretations. Fortunately, it was on sale, so it's acceptable, price-wise. Wasn't very impressed.
Has any of you seen it? Liked it? Hated it?

Saw him in "Das Boot," which was hard for me to follow, as I needed to constantly watch the subtitles (mein Deutsch ist fast tod -- fragst du auf Jastaelf! meine "Gerglish" ist sehr imaginationishlichen!). Enjoy!

Date: 2009-10-13 06:58 pm (UTC)Mum and I usually do the holiday shopping months in advance. It's less hectic, you can easier find things you actually *want* to get for your loved ones, insteard of the crap advertising tries to persuade you they couldn't live without, and I generally enjoy taking my time.
Have I mentioned how much you spoil me all the time? But I've found something wonderful for *you* this year, which makes me very happy. Must find according internet sources in English, or else you wouldn't know what it is, but I still have two months for that, so... ;)
