Well, folks, it's *that* time of the year again: I'll be 53 next Friday. So, it's time for the annual game of "let's the threads collapse". Come in, make yourselves comfortable, have a good time and bring your friends. Last years we had some 400+ comments, now we're in for the new record. ;)

This entry will be bounced up each day until October 9, so that all those who want can participate.

Update: On October 4, we had 195 comments on 2 pages. Well done. We still have got 5 more days, so let's see what we can do in that time. I have to say, the conversations in the individual threads were absolutely delightful. *is happy*

Update #2: On October 6, we had 270 comments - sadly, still on only 2 pages. Only 3 more day left to reach the ultimate goal, which would be 444 comments on 4 pages. But the discussions are great, so at the very least, we have the quality, if not the quantity yet. And that's more important, I'd say.

Update #3: On October 8, we had 388 comments, on 3 pages! Yay! I'm not very optimistic about Page 4, but I think the 444 comments might come together by the end of the day itself.

Pre-birthday gifts:
Got a wonderful bakery book from Mum, titled "Muffins and..." well, I seriously doubt that the English language has a word for the rest. Germans might know what Pogatschen are. They are small, salty or cheesy cookies, made usually of yeast dough... a Hungarian speciality. We already have quite a few recepies, but there are some in that book I never heard of. It will be a delight to try them out.

Also, I got the box-set of 2nd Season Torchwood from the most generous [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris! Thanks, my friend, you really, really made my day after two rather stressful weeks. I can finally watch the only episode I missed while we were in Belgium - the one in which Owen becomes a zombie. Heh!

Pre-birthday preparations:
I baked some strawberry flavoured muffins tonigh - not from the new book, from the carton box, I'm afraid, but for the colleagues they will do tomorrow.

Mum's bravely going down to the hairdresser's tomorrow, because, as she told me, "I can't look like this on your birthday!" Well, after not seeing a hairdresser for months, there's some truth in it.

The day after tomorrow, we're going to the "Blind Crow" for lunch. Unlike in English-speaking countries, lunch is actually the main meal of the day over here, so it will be great. The "Blind Crow" is a very nice little restaurant, and we can reach it on foot, which is the main issue, as Mum can't climb into any busses yet.

Final update:
Well, folks, the party will still be going on until midnight, CET, but I'm already declaring it a great success. We've made it onto Page 4, we've broken through the 500 (!!!)-comment-barrier, and I'm very happy.

Thanks everyone for participating, especially [livejournal.com profile] altariel, [livejournal.com profile] rcfinch, [livejournal.com profile] solanpolarn, [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris, [livejournal.com profile] theromangeneral and [livejournal.com profile] lhun_dweller, who've been working diligently and tirelessly to help me break the record. Should I've forgotten anyone, I humbly apologize.

That does sounds like an excellent idea with naming people after chocolate! In my programming course my friend and I who did the final assignment together probably spent more time working out themes for what to name our variables than we did on actually designing the program. Our programming teacher was really cool, though and asked us about the spelling of one of the names. We used characters from Winnie-the-Pooh and we explained that we had used the English spelling -- after some deliberation -- and not the Swedish translation and this satisfied him. For our next project we named the variables after character on Star Trek. :-)

That sounds like fun. :)
I forgot to mention that I had a Cardinal Cadbury, too. Or was he the Archbishop of Canterbury? I'm not sure. Yeah, perhaps he was.

In a sci-fi unverse where the pope is canonically a woman, cardinals could be named after chocolate, I think.

Was Cardinal (or Archbishop) Cadbury a pacifist and Christian-type socialist, à la Quakers? I would have been forever plotting what chocolate name would best reflect the character of my characters and never getting anywhere with the story. There should be more chocolate all round -- makes the world a better place! :-)

True, true. I'm afraid Archbishop Cadbury was only mentioned in passim. But I'm sure he'd have had a very sweet nature. ;)

I think he may have even been too sweet for me. ;-) I would have had to have two cardinals Green and Black that were always seen together...

Heh! That's a great idea! Never heard of that particular brand before.

Oh Green & Black's is wonderful chocolate! Their 70% dark chocolate is very good on its own, but they also do some other varieties like currant & hazelnut and cherry. I am also very fond of the one they call Maya Gold, which is dark chocolate "infused with spices and a twist of orange". Yummy!

I dunno, I'm a bit sceptical about spices and chocolate. I like my choco sweet. Not too sweet, but definitely sweet. And with alpine milk. *ducks*

I should think you like Cadbury's milk chocolate then! Before moving to England my staple chocolate was the Swedish Marabou milk chocolate, which is quite sweet as well with a hint of caramel in its flavour. Green & Black do some high cocoa milk chocolate apart from the dark chocolate and it is very good too. I especially like the one with almonds in. Hmm, I might just pop into the kitchen and fetch some after posting this...

Yeah, I've had Cadbury's milk chocolate. It was quite tasty.

This topic is perilous for our girlish shape, though. I feel the first hint of chocolate craving myself.

I apparently have low iron levels in my blood, so I am claiming all my chocolate as medicinal! I somehow don't think that was what my home economics book was trying to tell me with the chart of nutritional values for chocolate, but that is the message I received. :-)

Fortunately, the reception of such messages is always highly subjective. *g*

Chocolate also contains significant quantities of flourine, so I would also argue that eating it was good for your teeth... Sometimes I do feel rather sorry for my old teachers!
