Unlikely but true: I've actually managed to update "The Book of Mazarbul", my slow-going Dwarf serial.

This doesn't mean that my Tolkien muse would have awakened from hibernation; I just got annoyed with my inability of posting later chapters that have already been written because this particular one wasn't finished yet. So I gritted my teeth, sat down and didn't allow myself to stand up until I wrote the last two pages or so.

It's probably not up to my usual level, but since it will be ignored as usual (save by Dís, who's the most supportive person on this planet), it's not such a tragedy, I guess. And the later chapters are better.

It's up to SoA and TFF, and I'll force myself to post it to FF.Net tomorrow, just in case someone chooses to read it by accident. [/sarcasm]

I also posted the new Gwen-bashing part to otherworlds_lib and posted the 5th chapter of "A Touch of the Wild" as well as the next installment of "The Toreador Chronicles" to hiddenrealms. The latter is friends-locked, though, as it's the thing with the highest squick factor I've ever written. But it was necessary for the plot.

I hope my fellow Gwen-haters will resurface eventually. I got a bit spolied by all the nice feedback I got for the Wishverse series so far; the sudden lack of it is a bit depressing. Not that I wouldn't be used to it, but this particular niche was different until now.

Okay, I'll shut up before I get totally depressed again.

I think sometimes muses respond to a convincing display of force. Dwarf muses are probably more than usually stubborn, so I'm impressed you managed to get yours to cooperate.

You forget that I work with teenagers, forcing them to learn foreign language. After thirty-plus years of *that*, Dwarf muses aren't really a challenge. ;)

Have they taught you Khuzdul yet? It seems the least they could do for a language instructor. :D

They haven't - and besides, what's the point? Dwarf stories aren't in great demand anyway, unless they contain completely put-upon, inane Legolas/Gimli slash. :(

I wouldn't even bother to write Tolkienfic in these days, so fed up am I with this fandom nepotism, had the later chapters of this particular story not been written for a year or so. I just want that which is already there out of my hair. Even if Dís is the only person who's gonna read it.

You'd be one of the very few people to ever learn their language; that's the point. Granted, there's not a lot of demand for lessons in Khuzdul these days, so it wouldn't be the most practical new language they could teach you...

I'm glad you're finishing the story up. There are far too many half-finished works cluttering up archives in this fandom, and far too few Dwarf stories!

Don't I know it! I have dozens of those myself - I mean unfinished stories, not Dwarf stories.

Of coruse, if I hadn't the ridiculous expectation that people actually read my shit, I might have long finished them all. It's my damned fault to be such an attention whore, right?

But I still intend to finish all the stuff that hangs around unfinished. Somehow. Someday. If I live long enough.

The problem, of course, is that as soon as you finish one fic, a plotbunny will bite you and you'll have another fic in progress before you know it - so the total number of unfinished fics in the universe will remain stable!

I know. Imagine doing this in about a dozen fandoms, like I do... It's a frightening prospect, actually.

Which is why I would need an early retirement.

And if your school had any sense, they'd give you one (at full pay) so you could complete this Herculean task!

Heh. How true. I've been writing, one way or another, since the age of ten or eleven, but I always have at least ten times more plotbunnies than actually written stories.

So you're the one responsible for the worldwide plotbunny overpopulation problem! Don't you know that disposing of unwanted plotbunnies by releasing them into the wild is a very ecologically irresponsible action? :D

No, I wasn't it, I swear! Some of the bunnies are still safely caged, waiting for their chances, the rest simply died from starvation, the poor little buggers. *wipes tear from eye*

I don't think plotbunnies can die of starvation. They're probably just in hibernation mode, conserving their strength until they have the opportunity to launch are more successful attack.

Some of them can. When I started writing, I had lots of excellent ideas, mostly for original fiction and historic novels, but they're utterly, hopelessly dead now.
