Those still remaining with our choir will be going to Eisenstadt tomorrow. This is a small town in Austria, near the Hungarian border and used to be the seat of the Esterházy Dukes.

Now, this year is - musically - the homage year of Joseph Haydn, one of the Great Vienna Classics (the other two being Mozart and Beethoven), who used to be the court composer and orchester leader of the Esterházys for, oh, I don't know centuries or so. *g*

Honouring this special occasion, various Hungarian children choirs are giving a concert in the Esterházy Castle, which has been re-fitted as a concert hall (among other things). Two of those choirs are from our district, so the district's Pedagogic Service organized a massive trip (6 busses full of people) to go and fire the children on.

The other spectators have to pay for entry, but since the Service was so happy with our performance on the district's music festival two weeks ago, we have been invited to go with them for free. They'll even pay our entry fees to the various sights, it's said, although I'm still not willing to believe that part. ;))

Yep, there will be sighteeing and stuff before the concert - it's a day-long trip by bus, so I'll probably need new kneecaps afterwards, but who cares - and it might be that we'll be asked to sing something, after all, although it's by no way sure. We'll take our notes with us, just in case.

And I'll take my camera. I've never been there before, but Mum has and says the place is amazing. She comes with us, too; there was a vacancy, as someone had to quit the trip for personal reasons, and our choir leader asked her if she'd like to come. She's been officially declared Choir Granny. *g*

What a great opportunity - and I'm glad that your Mum can go too. I hope that the sightseeing is as lovely as it sounds. Getting to sing as well would just be perfect, but it sounds great regardless. Enjoy it!

The sightseeing was lovely indeed. We didn't get to sing during the concert, in the end (it was a very slim chance to begin with) but we sang spontaneously in various churches, so it was nice nonetheless. We loved every minute of it.
