Little delights

wiseheartThe afternoon with my little Silvan girl went very well. I've cooked my famous "Sauerbraten", Mum baked "Pogatschen" - sorry, I have no idea what they are called in English, perhaps one of the German folks can help -and we bought a nice cake with vanilla creme and strawberry jelly. Yum!
We made several small gifts, and Little Silvan Girl was delighted. She's one of those rare 18-year-olds who can still appreciate small things given with much love... although, of course, I can never free myself from the image of the sweet 8-year-old she used to be when I met her the first time.
After dinner (well, late lunch perhaps, as it took place around 3 o'clock in the afternoon), we talked for almost four hours. Mum and I shared old stories and pictures with her, and she actually had fun. Another thing very few 18-year-olds would do. We promised her to dig out Granny's photo album next time, with all those wonderful, ancient photographs that are all brown from age, and where people are portrayed in hysterically theatric poses.
She'll go to another city to university from September on, if she gets accepted. I'll miss her, but it will be good to her. Szeged is a university town, with lots of young people; not a small one, but not so inhumanly huge as Budapest, plus she has relatives there, so she won't be alone. I hope it will go well. I heard mostly good things about that place. But I'll miss her, yeah.
