I'm considering trimming my flist. [livejournal.com profile] lethe_lloyd is right: people who obviously don't give a shit about what happens to me, can't really be considered friends, right? (Of course, being a fine lady, she phrased it differently, but still...) Boy, but if I do, wouldn't it be a really slim flist!

On other news, Mum's turned 77 today. She got lots of phone calls from her friends, which is nice. Mum has the popularity gene that I lack, so she has lots of friends. Some of her friendships are over forty years long, and her friends never try to backstab her. Must be a nice thing.

In any case, I was so dead for the simple pleasures of life that I only realized which day it was when already at work. So I had to call Mum from work and give her my best wishes through phone. Fortunately, she found it so funny she laughed her head off and was not offended.

I took her to a very fine new café after work (looked a lot like those you can find in Vienna) and we had very good coffee and phantastic cakes. It was fun. And thank God, it's weekend again.

Will post Kansas 2 to FF.Net tomorrow. I'm curious how many of the people who've pestered me for the frigging sequel for years will actually read it... or take a moment to give some encouraging feedback.

Congratulations on your mom's birthday. Mine turned 82 turned on the 26th, we had her party at home since she's not really up to going out.

Mine quite forgot hers until we reminded her of it, but she enjoyed the day and the party such as it was. ckl

As long as there's enjoyment, it's all right, I guess. :)

I agree about the f-list. I was considering setting up a new account since after being called rude by some-one who's never commented or spoken to one once I wondered if it was worth the backlash of trimming it. However, the account is paid until the summer, so I will wait until then.

Belated Happy Birthday to your Mum, I am glad that you had a good time with her :)

Yeah, but if you set up a new account, you'll lose everything on the old one - it would be a shame, right? You can always make your journal friends-only entirely, that way you avoid unwanted comments.

It is friends only, but when I began I listed people from a forum and some from ff.net who never post. And since I have some very personal stuff and don't know them very well and they never comment, it seems like baring my old wounds to complete strangers.

Any writing is backed up and posted on ff.com, so I wouldn't be that worried about losing it, it's the comments and discussions which I value. I did not think when I joined of crosschecking people's f-lists on their bio, as if some-one is a friend of one of my f-list, it's likely that we'll have things in common. I do that now.

I meant the loss of discussions and comments, actually.

Yes, that would be a pity, but can a person not have two accounts and still keep the older one? Does it have to be shut down?

Oh, I see, I've misunderstood you. I thought you wanted to delete your own account. I think you can have two - I know people who do. It's just too much bother for me: sign in, sign out, sign in with the other account... that's why I've created communities for the fanfic and keep my account for personal stuff.

Oh, no, I wouldn't delete it. I will probably leave it. I don't think many of these ' non persons ' even use their LJ much. But when some of them that I don't really know have access to very personal info and are themselves prolific on some busy forums on ff.net, I admit to not really liking it much. ( I don't mean Aislynn )

She'll be happy about the good wishes coming from you. She still speaks very fondly of you - we both enjoyed our short soujourn to Cambridge immensely.

Belated happy birthday to your mother! When I was a kid, 77 was ancient - but is no age these days. How is she feeling on the new meds?

About the f-list, I imagine that's the backside to being a well-known writer: many people join your list to catch updates or simply because they recognize the name. Am I right?

I put my self-portrait on this post - at least that's how I felt when we got home from all the stuff we had to do today. Is that how you're feeling, too?

Mum doesn't have new meds yet - they're still slowly weaning her from the old ones. After several weeks, there will be more blood tests, and then we'll see.

I doubt it. Firstly, I have a different username here. Secondly, with the exception of about two or three people, I've known everyone from various fandoms (although mostly the Tolkien one) for years. I just lack the gene.

Oh, I see. Sounds like a tiring process for her. :-(

As to commenting on stories, I know I'm a horrible friend - just don't read much and review even less. But hey - if you want to rant, I'm here!

Hey, it's okay! You read what you like and comment on what catches your interest. We can't all be interested in the same things. Especially considering the dozen or so fandoms I write for...

Happy belated birthday to your mom. My mom wishes I would forget her birthday. She hasn't wanted to celebrate any of them since turning fifty, six-and-a-half years ago. I say age is just a number but she doesn't listen. ~sigh.~

Still no Singe from my angle of view, FYI.

Congratulations to your mom!

You have my deepest sympathies for forgetting birthdays... That happens to me all the time and it's soooo embarrassing!

As for trimming your friends list... I dunno, I'd say quality over quantity. But then, you also talk about your fanfic projects on your journal, so maybe some people have you friended to read about that?

Well, very few actually care about my fanfic projects, so booting out those who very apparently don't give a sh*t won't be that big a loss, I'm afraid.

One of my LJ-friends does this regularly. She posts in her journal "if you want to unfriend me because we don't share interests anymore, do it now, then I'll unfriend you, too, no hard feelings."

Congratulations to your moms birthday from me, too. My mom, too, always had more friends than I have - she just had the gift and personality to get along with most people and get into knowing them quite easily, while I have a very small circle of real life friends. At least, the few are good ones. :)

Will post Kansas 2 to FF.Net tomorrow. I'm curious how many of the people who've pestered me for the frigging sequel for years will actually read it... or take a moment to give some encouraging feedback.

Hey, I hope you realize that even when I do not read some of your stories, nevertheless I care about you! *HUGS*

But it's good to have you back. Frankly, I was a bit worried about you having been eaten by a troll or swallowed by a black hole or whatnot.
