Like many others, I've created a way of escape: an InsaneJournal account, just to be on the safe side. I hope it won't be necessary, but, well, we'll see.

The Russian gas crisis has hit us hard - we used to got 80 per cent of our gas from Russia, and many households are heated by gas. The only good thing: we won't have to work on Saturday, after all, as it's going to be an exceptionally cold day. We'll work sometime in March instead, but that's okay.

First three days at school were a bit tiring, but only two more to go and we'll have weekend. We still do have central heating, so I'll try to enoy it.

Wrote two chapters of my new Criminal Minds/Pathways crossover story. To borrow a matching expression from James Walkswithwind, Pathways is the AU that swallows all fandoms.

Off to sleep now. I'm tired and coughing like an insane watchdog, so bed is in order.

Thanks. It's not really an illness. I get this frigging cold every year - it's sheer inevitable. It came fairly late this year, actually.

Oh, that's a misery :( although every-one here seems to be coughing, sneezing, wheezing out all three, and when I went to get some specific tablets they had sold out, as they said, shrugging, ' Every-one's ill. ' O_o

Small wonder, considering the arctic weather we're having right now. :(

The guy on your icon apparently isn't bothered by it. Who is he? He must be a fell man, running around naked by this weather.

It was -10 degrees Celsius here in the morning. And while it's nothing compared with what we used to have in Transylvania while I was a child, now that I'm an old hag, I suffer from it like crazy.

I was chilled to the bone taking the dog out, :( the fog made it worse.

Sorry about your cold. In have been lucky, so far, this year - I suppose that is a side effect of the inoculation against influenza I got by my employer. Although the bacteria fr a cold are completely different ones. But apparently, they got scared away... :)

I give you my best wishes and hope you get better. Take care of yourself, as Lethe said! *HUGS*

Thanks. My annual cold doesn't have anything to do with the flu - I used to have chronic bronchitis as a child, and this is some kind of reminder. I've learned to live with it, and it isn't all that dangerous, just not very pleasant.

I get that Aislynn, although the cold and flu virus is different, ever since I have had the flu jab, I have not had a real cold.

It's interesting. Several of my colleagues have suffered from a nasty case of cold/flu/whatever *after* they got the flu jab.

That's what one of the people on my f-list won't have it, though as a nurse she gets offered it every winter. She said she feels awful for ages after. Every-one is different, I expect. One of my uncles who should have it won't for the same reason.

I'm sorry to hear the annual winter cold is on. Take good care of yourself!

As for the flu shot, it's still possible to get the 'flu, even if vaccinated. One may develop a milder case, or it may be that the strains of 'flu the vaccination was developed for aren't close enough to the ones that actually emerge.

The vaccine takes a long time to make, so the makers have to make a best-guess prediction of which strains will emerge months in the future. Sometimes, it's not as good a fit: you still get some protection, but not perfect.

Having said that, I get a flu shot every year. The one year I couldn't -- there was a shortage because of a production problem, and my asthma isn't bad enough to justify depriving an elderly person of a shot. I got very sick, high fever for 5 days... and a few months later, I developed an autoimmune disease that will be with me for life. There is a strong correlation between viral infection and onset of autoimmunity, so I always urge everyone who can, especially women (who are at greater risk for most autoimmune disorders) to get a flu shot. It's a good personal and public health choice!

Interestingly enough, I never get the actual flu - it seems that my very own cold bacteria won't allow any other pathogen to enter my battered system. Well, if that's the price... *g*

I hope your cold is better by now! I'm totally out of the loop, why do you think you might have need of a backup journal? Is there something going on with Livejournal?

Apparently, the Russian company that has bought LJ just fired some of the American employees. Whether this means that LJ itself is in danger or not, I can't tell, but just to be on the safe side, I've created an IJ account and will be backing up all my important entries from now on.

Huh, I didn't even know that LJ got bought up. Maybe I should make a backup journal, too *thoghtful* Meh, I hope they don't go on a rampage deleting all the NC17 stuff like I heard LJ did a few years ago.

I only learned about it via my friendslist, too. A backup journal isn't a bad thing anyway. At least your future entries would be safe if you backed them up from now on.

I hope I'll be able to download my LJ with someone's help, though. I'd hate to lose five or more years of my personal history.

Glad to hear you still have heat and won't be working Saturday. You and your mum keep warm, OK? Don't want you getting sick.

FYI: the second book arrived today. One more, and your "Christmas" package will be on its way!

I'm not any more sick than usual during winter, so it doesn't count, I guess. Mum's a lot hardier than I am, it seems - all those years of freezing cold in Transylvania must have toughed her up or whatnot - does a word like that exist at all? I tend to Germanize my English.

And have I mentioned how much you're spoiling me? And what a warm, fuzzy feeling it is, being spoiled? ;)
