...are Nougatkipferln. Sorry, I have no idea what they are called in English. They are very yummy, but damn hard to make - no matter whatever you try, the frigging dough breaks every five seconds or so. Which means, you can't roll it properly; you have to work with it like little kids work with wet sand... urgh!

I wonder how the folks in the cooking magazine where I have the recipe from managed to get them so smooth and even. I swear they put glue into it - after all, you can't see what's within on a picture, right?

In any case, I dared a risky experiment. The recipe demands Nougatmasse for the cookies. That's something you can't get in Hungary. So I tried hazelnut spread and ground chocolate indeed. Let me tell you: it works!

They look a little like a form of donut almost.

The form is like that of a half-donut, true. But the dough is completely different, and it's baked in the oven, not fired.

Cool icon, BTW, How's the salty goodness?

It is. One hell to make them, but they taste good. This was the recipe I feared most and am mightily relieved that the things are done.

Your cookies sound just gorgeous. Near Christmas, I always mean to bake, and never do. It sounds like it's worth the effort :)

It's a lot less fun when you're doing it alone. I haven't done it for years, either - the possibility of baking together with Ági has inspired me to start earlier. I'm looking forward to having her over at the weekend and baking together.

I think in English they're called delicious. ;-)

I don't know if I'm going to have any time to do Christmas baking this year. Very disappointing, even if my figure does say thanks. Somehow Christmas just isn't complete without some traditional cookies!
