Mum was very sick today - probably a mild case of food poisoning... at least I hope it's a mild one. Poor soul was so desperate she called me at school if I could get home earlier. Fortunately, I have some wonderful colleagues, so I could.

Then I went to the doctor's on her behalf to ask what we should do. I was told to give her cool fruit juice, and guess what? It actually helped! She's not out of the woods yet, but she's doing better. Now we are guessing at what might have caused the whole thing, but the only item in question she ate two days ago. Could it have caused problems today? Weird.

On a differnt matter, I hate, hate hate the new LJ profile layout. Why do they - and Yahell and Hotmail and everyone else - always feel the urge to change things? Or if they do, why won't they allow us to keep the older versions? There'll always be people who would want the new, shiny things, why can't we old hags stick with that to which we've got used?

Good Thoughts to your mum - food poisoning is horrible (although, it isn't something I've ever had, perhaps because I'm a vegetarian?).

As to change - I confess that I don't mind them, although not all of them seem to be actual "improvements" *g*
Cheers :)

Well, there's such things as vegetable or fruit gone wrong, right?

Thanks for the good thoughts - Mum's doing better already. We've been fortunate.

Perhaps your Mum just caught a bug? They can be horrible, but it seems she's getting rid of it quite fast. Good for her! No dairy products for a while, is my suggestion.

Had a stomach illness some years ago; it lasted 5 days and by then I was as weak as a newborn kitten. Took me a week to get my appetitet back, and another two weeks before I felt like myself. Wasn't much fun.

No, I think it was something she ate. She seems to be done with it, thankfully.

I hope your mum recovers quickly; this sounds like the last thing she needed. At least mild food poisoning is (hopefully) not so bad as that awful winter vomiting virus. Lots of juice and bland-but-nourishing food sounds like a good plan.

I also don't like the new profile layout :)

Thanks. Home cure seems to be working.

Re: layout change
Why the hell can't they let us choose whether we want it or not?

Hope your mum's recovered!

I didn't even notice the new profile layout until you mentioned it. Bah, it's ugly, I liked the old one better.

More or less, thanks.

And if you think the LJ profile layout is ugly, you haven't seen hotmail yet. Or the new, fantastic changes to FF.Net.

I hate when sites do that and won't allow you to choose between old and new.

I'm happy to hear your Mom is feeling better. Did you ever find out what caused the food poisoning?

Sorry, didn't got your comment in time. And no, we're still not sure what it was. It's good that it only lasted two days, though.

Oh dear! I do hope Mum's better by now. (No laptop on travel, so I'm behind in answering). And yes, it's quite possible for food poisoning to hit two days later: it takes around 24-72 hours from eating to elimination, and the nasty bugs need a little while to settle in and multiply enough to make a person sick. It's miserable, and I'm glad you went to the doctor because it can be more serious in older folks, who are more vulnerable to dehydration and chemical imbalances. She has a very fine daughter taking care of her!

She's all right again, thanks. So much so that she actually trekked 45 minutes last Saturday to get from the train station to the frigging concert hall in a small country town where we were giving our first concert this year. Thank God the woman can't be beaten. :)

I don't like the new User Profile page either. Yuck! What was wrong with the old one?
