Are you sure you want to know? Well, okay, but don't complain afterwards about the whining.

I think I ought to stop writing entirely. Or, at the very least, I ought to stop posting my stuff anywhere. Perhaps writing exclusively for my desk drawer will prove less frustrating - and more frustration is the last think I could use right now, considering what's waiting for me job-wise.

After all, I used to be perfectly happy writing for my desk drawer for, oh, thirty years or so. Why I thought it was a good idea to change that is sometimes unclear for me. Unfortunately, you can't really step in the same river twice, now can you?

As long as I get a key to it, you can write for your desk drawer :)

Honestly, I read youur stuff with pleasure, but university claims all my reviewing and writing ability at the moment. And although I know a squee would be enough for you, I feeel bad when I cannot leave a thoughtful review to a thoughtful work... *hugs tight*

This is not you - or about any particular person. It's about the fact that other people seem to be able to attract literal armies of readers and I'm not one of those. And that's frustrating.

I admit I get frustrated too when I guess I'm one of the lucky ones for feedback.
I like to know my writing is "out there".

I think often people enjoy a story but are too lazy to say so. I fear I've only time to read a handful of stories, mostly about Aragorn.

We all have our reading preferences - I have them, too. One would think, though, that since I write across all Ages, all genres and all races, my stuff would attract at least some new readers, after my former regulars have all fallen out of the fandom.

But apparently, I'm cursed. "People" in general seem to have find the time and the inspiration to encourage a great deal of other authors... just not me. So, either I'm suffering from delusions and do, in fact, write crap, or I'm truly cursed. Which would still be the better thing.

Well let me know if you write anything about Aragorn,Faramir or Arwen my favourites and I'll check it out if you do.

Maybe it is easier to find readers if you are known for a certain niche? like anyone reading my stories is almost certain to get my 3 favourites characters after the Ring War.If I try writing, say Boromir,or Gilraen, the readers complain they want Aragorn and Faramir back!

Perhaps so. I can't help if I'm interested in more of Middle-earth than just a few characters, though. ;))

I did write some stuff about Faramir, but only on the sidelines. "The Young Knights" does feature 13-years-old Faramir, but I don't know whether you are interested in him at that age. The only time I write about Arwen was in "The Prisoner of Dol Guldur", and she only appeared in two chapters and the epilogue, which is my somewhat different take on her death.

I'm still struggling with the character of Aragorn. He used to be my favourite Man (well, after Faramir) when I only knew the Books. But I came to despise him after the movies so much that I still can't really deal with him. Perhaps in ten more years... if I live long enough. *crosses fingers*

Your just have to write what the Muses give you> I wanted to write stories about Aragorn,Eomer and Hobbits, but my Muses had other ideas!

I have the film DVds, but don't watch them and concentrate solely on the books nowadays. You only see Aragorn's dry humour, which I love there, and his compassion and great healing skills.

The same with me re: DVDs. If I watch them at all, I only watch certain parts, and fast-forward every scene Elrond, Aragorn, Arwen or Galadriel are in it. Or Éomer and Éowyn.

And those were characters I absolutely *loved* in the books!

Film Elrond and Faramir are my chief film hates as they seem to have hardly anything in common with Tolkien's characters of the same name.

No arguments here. I couldn't even read about Faramir for years, until I've managed to reconstruct him in my head. Currently, I'm seeing him as Orlando Bloom looked in "Kingdom of Heaven". That's how I was able to include him as an important player in "The Vault of the Dead".

Oh, lookie, that's really a story where I have adult!Faramir! I completely forgot about it, as it basically focuses on Boromir and the Dark Elves, but Faramir has a part in it, too.

I really ought to make a list of my stories and about which character features in which one. I'm getting confused myself. *g*

Hey, don't feel bad about getting no feedback, 'cause hon, you darn well know that I get even less than you do! You have always remember that you are really writing for yourself, just like you did when it all went into a file in you desk drawer. It always has been for you and always will be for you and the rest can all go hang!

They can indeed. The problem is that once you've "licked blood", as the Germans say, the desk drawer won't satisfy you any longer. I've been writing since the age of ten, and imagine my delight when I discovered the Internet where I could actually share! Only that it seems very few people are still interested, as most of my regular readers have fallen out of the fandom(s), and the Net suddenly became such a lonely place. :(
