I've begun to read "Glennkill" by Leonie Swamm. It's a hysterically funny novel about a herd of sheep trying to figure out who've murdered their old shepherd. The whole thing is written in the manner of an Agatha Christie crime novel, only from the perspective of the sheep who all have distinctive personalities and their very own philosophy.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who understand German enough to read. It's an easy reading, not too complicated and highly enjoyable.

Ich habe einige Passagen davon gelesen, aber nicht viele. Ich muss mir das Buch gelegentlich besorgen...

Well, now that I've almost finished, I must admit that the plot itself isn't that grand. But it's an absolute must-read because of the sheep. They're absolutely fantastic.

I saw that book offered in my Sci-Fi Book Club flyer and it looked really cute but I'd rather get something like that out from the library than buy it. Or if I were going to buy it, I'd get in in paperback. I like anthropomorphic fiction so I'll probably read it at some point.

I got it in paperback, too. It's an enjoyable read, despite the somewhat disappointing end result. But the main thing are the sheep anyway, and they are absolutely adorable.

I wonder how it would work in English translation, though. Well enough, I guess. German literary language can be a pain in the backside sometimes, very tiring to read, but this book isn't like that, and so must come through translation easily enough.

That books sounds like great fun. Agatha Christie is one of my guilty pleasures, and I enjoy books that turn conventions on their heads that way.

Unfortunately, my Germans is elementary school level (or worse!).

Perhaps it exists in translation, too? You should check it, it's really very funny.

Sounds great! I'll be on the look-out for it: Agatha Christie + sheep in one novel, what more can one ask for. lol

Funny thing is, I vaguely recall reading something along these lines, many years ago ... hmmm.
