Or rather some old ones. Quite a few ones, in fact, mostly travelling vids about places where I was (like Belgium) or where I'm planning to go (like Stockholm). But also some old movies I loved for some reason, although I still haven't succeeded to find a copy of "Ladyhawke"

In any case, I also purchased the old "Andromeda Strain" movie, based on the novel by Michael Chrichton, a book I useed to love. I also used to love the movie, decades ago, when I first saw it.

I was positively surprised that I found the movie every bit as good and exciting as at the firs time.

Oh, Ladyhawke is one of my favourites!!

(I also bought a few DVDs... ;-) The crappy Highlander movie, the 2 Elizabeth movies - havent' yet seen the second one -, Brothers Grimm - haven't seen that either -, and 2 DVDs from the TerraX series - love historical documentaries)

I also broke down and bought the EE of FOTR on DVD. Got a "Geschenkcoupon" from one of my classes, so I only had to pay 490 FT instead of 5490, which is quite a difference, I'd say. FOTR is the only part of the trilogy I actually liked, save from the battle of the wizards and the visuals of Rivendell and Lothlórien. Oh, and the casting. Gandalf (as long as he was grey), Sam, Bilbo and Gollum were OK and Boromir was terrific, but I didn't like how everyone else was cast.

I love Ladyhawke. It's one of my favorites. I like, "The Andromeda Strain," both book and movie. There was a remake of it on one of the cable channels last month. I didn't watch it but I heard it wasn't as good and that they tried to make the storyline more "relevant" to today.

I didn't like Brothers Grimm all that much. Parts of it were interesting and it was visually well done but the plot was predictable and I was turned off by a couple of pointless scenes of animal cruelty. Although, I did like Peter Stormare's character but I've liked him in everything I've seen him in.

I haven't seen Brothers Grimm. I think, ater this, I won't be, either. I trust your taste. Speaking of which, would you recommend 'Blood and Chocolate'? I was flirting with the DVD for a while - it's on sale - but didn't dare to buy.

I'm not surprised that the remake isn't half as good as the 'Andromeda Strain' original. It's often the fall with good movies.

Oops, I got confused and thought you'd bought "Brothers Grimm." That'll teach me not to read and reply to things when I'm tired. But I still wouldn't recommend it.

I would recommend "Blood and Chocolate." It's a pretty good werewolf movie. My biggest issue with it was that it was nothing like the book. The characters had the same names but that was it. They changed everything else but for anyone who hasn't read the book, that won't matter.

Well, since I never heard of the book, I might enjoy it. Of course, as my luck usually is, all copies would be probably sold when I get back, now that I've decided to buy it. That happened before.

Oh yes, 'The Andromeda Strain' - great book! I didn't even now they'd made a movie.

'Ladyhawke' is such a lovely movie. It was on TV again this winter, and I never tire of it; of course Rutger Hauer is absolutely stunning which may have something to do with it. ahem.

What did I buy recently ... let me see: 'Lady Chatterley's Lover' (Sean Bean!), 'Love Actually' (because it makes me feel good) and my kids gave me 'Blues Brothers' which I've wanted to get hold of - wonderful movie!

The old move was great. They made Levitt a woman, which I actually didn't mind, as she was much more interesting that way - a middle-aged woman with an attitude, not a busty blonde or an anorexic brunette, back then those weren't required - but otherwise, they went pretty much with the book.

I've taped Ladyhawke from German TV, but I wish to watch it with the original voices. Such a shame that I can't get the movie anywhere. Too bad, as Ruther Hauer has one of his very few respectable roles in it. That poor man was badly misused in Hollywood. He deserves better.

Lady Chatterley is a really bad movie, IMO, the only good parts are naked body parts of SB, and don't shoot me, but I think he looks better clothed (like most people).

I've tried to watch Blues Brothers once or twice, but I had to admit that it's just not my cup of tea. Of course, considering that I mostly watch sci-fi, fantasy and horror, that isn't really surprising, is it?

Yes, Rutger Hauer ought to have become a star; don't know what went wrong.

As to Lady Chatterley, I have only watched the first part and SB was still clothed - lol.

But I'll get plenty of time now to catch up on watching movies - I've been sent on sick-leave with RMI (I think it's called) = too much mouse-work.

As to Blues Brothers, you either love them or hate them; they're definitely not to everybody's taste! *g*

Good finds! I saw, then read 'The Andromeda Strain' many years ago, in my early teens, back when Micheal Crichton wrote good sci-fi. And 'Ladyhawke' is lovely - I'll have to see if I can find a copy in the right region.

That would be Region 2, if I remember correctly. :)

Thanks for your efforts. I've been haunting all places that sell old movies on DVD for a year or so, and I even managed to find some of my favourites, but not "Ladyhawke".
