I know I still owe you folks half the report and the picspam of our French trip from last year, but taht's still a long way to go, especially with having wiped my ScrapBook by accident. So I thought it easier to post the slovenian entries first (including picspam) and return to France later.

So Slovenia. It was a four-day-trip, organized by my school, and as one could take family, too, I took Mum with me again. The bus trip of the first day was incredibly long, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., which was about the time when we arrived in Postojna. Our first stop was a visit in the Postojna Cave, which was a true marvel.

The trip was an hour and a half long, after which we went to see Predjama Castle. Alas, we had very little time there, so I simply ran around, took photos of everything I saw and had fun.

In the first two nights we stayed in the Hotel Jama, which wasn't all that bad. I'd have loved to see more of the surroundings, but the programme was too rich for that. We were fairly dead in that evening, but very happy.

Enoy the picspam behind the cut!

Postojna

(Actually, Mum in front of an inn, still on the Hungarian side)

(The river Murva at Letenye, still in Hungary.)

Now come three pics of the entrance of Postojna Cave:

The following pictures of the inside of the Cave have been generously donated by several colleagues of mine, as I was too busy with not falling to take photos. *g*

This is just an appetizer. I'll add more pics as time allows.

Pictures don't even begin to give you an impression of what they really were like.

Wow, the Glittering Caves!

(And it's nice to see your mum again :-) )

Yeah, the Glittering Caves indeed. Although I have the feeling that the Professor had never been to a karst cave in his life, or else he wouldn't have made Gimli move to Aglarond. These caves are frigging cold - the constant average temperature is 8 degrees Celsius, which isn't much, and they are dripping wet... not the most comfortable of dwellings.

Moria, if I'm not mistaken, was conceived as a volcanic cave, with fire burning right underneath, relatively close to the surface, so that might be a bit warmer. But sitting above boiling magma isn't my idea of a nice home, either...

Although I shudder at the thought of such a bus ride (9 hours!), the cave looks truly awesome (and worth it).
Thank you!

You're welcome. :)

Yep, the bus ride was a tad long, although nothing compared to last summer when we went on that French trip and spent practically eleven days (!) on the bus.

The inn looks really cute. And that cave! WOW! What an impressive entrance! (The cave formations are no slouch, either).

Indeed. When I've made all entries with sample pictures (and finished uploading all the French stuff) I'll add more pics. I have lots and lots, just don't know how many the ScrapBook would hold, so I'm being cautious right now.

You can always set up an account on Photobucket or Flickr and link to it if the LJ Scrapbook doesn't have enough room for your pics. Just a thought for the future, should it include lots of lovely picspammage.

One day, you'll have to teach me how to do that. I'm technically challenged, you know...

First I'll have to learn to do it myself! LJ has a direct linking process to Photobucket, though, so I suppose linking to pictures there isn't much harder than linking to LJ Scrapbook galleries.

That cave is awesome. I've been to some local caves but they were fairly small ones although still fascinating.

Yes, they were very beautiful. I bought a DVD in the souvenir shop and watched it repeatedly, but it couldn't even come close to the real thing.

Pretty caves! We have some impressive ones near here, and well, caves are always nice.

They are, but as I've already said in my reply to [livejournal.com profile] altariel's comment, it's hard to believe anyone living in such caves permanently, because of the cold and the wetness and all that. Dry caves, yes, but not this kind.

So, IMNSHO, Aglarond might have been a nice idea of the Professor's, but just not doable in real life.

You're right about castles and caves...I think I'll stick to my house.
