It seems my satellite receiver has died for good. Drat. Won't be able to watch SGA next Wednesday. Not that SGA would be any good without Carson Beckett, but I wanted to grumble around about how bad it is.

Now a new, digital receiver is due. Will cost lots of money. But my frigging cable complany had taken off its offer seven of the formerly eight German-speaking channels, so I have to get some substitute. *is royally pissed*

Still no news work-wise*

What season of SGA are they airing there? The current one or a past season? Because the new episode with Kavanagh aired last night so I'm wondering if you would be able to watch it any time soon. (It was good even though Kav was treated as comic relief.) I don't know if you've heard the spoilers, but SGA may soon regain a certain, popular Scottish doctor.

Season Three. We've just had the episode with the Wraith Queen whom they found on that Ancient drilling station.

Kav as comic relief? I feel insulted, but what can you expect from the same writers who've degraded a wonderfully quirky charcter like McKay to a caricature? What did Kav get to do?

Carson's coming back? Well, that *almost* makes up for having made Sam Carter the leader of Atlantis. Almost. I mean, I liked her in SG-1 a great deal - much more than Torri Higginson's version of Weir(d), although I used to love how Jessica Steen played the character - but she's nothing to do with Atlantis. At least she shouldn't, IMO.

They had Kav working on Midway Station, the halfway point in McKay's wormhole bridge thing. I don't know if you've seen the episodes yet that explained about that or not. Kav was working with Dr. Lee from SGA and he was supposed to take control of Midway once he learned all the systems. Then the Wraith invaded.

A Wraith was about to feed on him to get info on the station systems and he fainted again(which was smart IMO but it was treated as cowardly on the show.) Then after the Wraith were defeated, he accidently set off the self-destruct sequence because the Wraith had sabatoged the systems and he was trying to cut power to the gate to prevent them from getting to Earth. Cue everyone treating him like an idiot again even though it was a mistake.

Then at the end, Ronon had killed all the Wraith and everyone was congratulating him. Kav stepped up to pat him on the back and Ronon shoved him against a wall and strode on by. This was evidently supposed to be seen as funny instead of more abuse on someone who'd done nothing to deserve it. Ugh.

Somehow I'm not surprised. I seriously doubt I'd buy Season 4 on DVD, Carson or no Carson.

BTW, I found the enthusiastic reactions over at [livejournal.com profile] kavtolanon more than a little surprising. Are the girls so bown away by the cuteness of the actor that they can't see if the character he plays is misused?

I think so. Admittedly, I was happy to see Ben Cotton again and he did have some fun scenes especially when he was bantering with Dr. Lee. I just didn't like the way he was treated. But I think that a lot of us fans were just happy to see him again and didn't care too much about the specifics of his appearance.

They also had Bates back on a few episodes ago. He's now discharged from the military and was working with Homeland Security in the episode. And what do the writers do? They promptly have him knocked unconscious again so that he's barely in the rest of the episode. It's nice that they haven't forgotten certain minor characters but I don't see the point of bringing them back if there's nothing specific for their character to do. Kav could have been any random scientist guy and for the most part, it wouldn't have made a difference in the episode.

They had Bates back? And wasted him just the same way they wasted Kav? Now that's annoying!

I liked Bates, he was an interesting character. Much more interesting than pretty but boring Major Lorne, actually. At least back on SH-1 Lorne was a geologist of some sort, other than being a soldier, and looked like someone with at least two brain cells firing at the same time.

Also, I find it a pity that they've practically eliminated everyone from the Atlantis crew who isn't white. I mean, they got rid of Ford and they got rid of Bates, and more people with names or actual lines to speak weren't there to begin with. Yes, I know there's Ronon, but he is an alien, so he doesn't count.
