Yep, I watched the second Blade on German TV yesterday. I'm of two minds about it.

On one hand, it was very professionally made. The fight scenes were almost ballett-like... if we're speaking of a bloody and violent ballett, of course. And Wesley Snipes has an incredibe aura. I've seen him in various roles, and I liked him in most of them. And his friend, the Whistler, was an interesting charcter.

On the other hand, the movie was fairly boring and predictable. There could be no question about the outcome, and the fight scenes, while beautifully coreographed, were completely unrealistic. I remembered what Mum always asks when watching such scenes: why are the bad guys waiting patiently until the good guy finished beating them up one at a time, instead of attacking him from all directions at once and simply killing him? That aspect was driven to the extreme in this movie.

In fact, I found that I liked the TV-series a lot more than the movies. I generally prefer TV-series, despite the small budget and the sometimes crappy sets and tricks, because there's more room for plot and character development. If the writers are any good, that is.

It's possible that some of the elaborate background seen in the series was already present in the movies. It might be that I'm stupid and inobservant. But the series gave me everything I missed in the movies. I was very sad that it ended so soon, and practically unwrapped.

The only thing I disliked in the series was the lead actor. He had no presence at all. Of course, I realize that anyone would have a hard time to fill Wesley Snipes' shoes, but this guy was really mediocre. And I'm being nice to him, since I actually liked the series.
