Finished reading "Eldest" by Christopher Paolini, the sequel to "Eragon". It took me several weeks, although I usually read a book of this magnitude in a mere two or three days.

I liked "Eragon" when I first read it. It had a certain naive charm. Unfortunately, "Eldest" is verbose, flat and boring. I've regretted buying it - I might try selling both it an "Eragon" to a second-hand bookshop. It's not worth the space it taking up in my book-case.

Too bad. I had high hopes for this trilogy.

Can't expect too much... All the ideas went into the first. The middle is always hard to hold up. Maybe he has an ending in mind that'll pull through?

That won't make up for the utter boredom that is "Eldest", I'm afraid. Once you stop care for the characters, the book is a lost case, IMO.

I agree. Characters are always the thing for me.
