The killer storms that hit Europe in the recent days have barely brushed Hungary. There were some strong winds, yes, some damage, but nothing that could be compared to the destruction in Germany or in the UK. It seems, sitting in a small basin surrounded by mountains does have its advantages sometimes.

I was relieved to read that you folks in the UK are all right, and that [livejournal.com profile] earonn has managed well enough, too. I hope my other friends are safe, too.

We in erlin had little trouble, either. Apparently, the storm was worst in the south of the city; in the part where I live, luckily, there was not much damage, though. But those parts of the city which are lower and somewhat of a basin, too, got flooded, if only for less than a meter above ground. Several trees went down, several cellars got flooded and had to be dried out again; and at the main train station, which was opened only half a year ago, a great beton pillar went loose and crashed down, and two other pillars got loose, to, but still hang in the facade. Luckily, nobody got hurt, but they closed the station.

Me? I spent the afternoon and night safely at home and listened to the storm howling on the outside. :)

Yep, I saw the pictures about the new train station. It looked pretty bad from here. I'm glad it wasn't the entire city.

We're getting bouts of strong wind every time and again all day - I hope it won't become any worse. These "Plattenbauten" weren't built for extreme stability, and I'd hate to lose my satellite dish. Yeah, petty worries, I know, but small things can be unpleasant, too.

Larissa was just ahead of the falling tree branch when she was cycling home from school. But otherwise, we're safe.

Poor girl! I bet she was shaken! But I'm glad you're more or less safe nonetheless.

Storms over Europe, fires in Australia...natural disasters galore! Let's hope all the weather settles down soon.

OK over here: we had very strong winds Saturday night, but no harm done that I've heard of. Of course, we've had a disturbingly mild winter so far: no measurable snow yet in my part of New England despite the piles dumped a little ways north, and only in the last two weeks have we had truly winter temperatures. Strange year, indeed!
