This is Brother Servatius, a Hungarian Benedictine. A lay brother I used to know well. For me, he's the closest thing to Brother Cadfael. No offence intended to Sir Derek Jacobi, I'm sure he did a great job in the TV-series, but for me he just doesn't look like Cadfael. The above picture isn't very good, Br. Servatius is actually a lot more Cadfael-like in real life, but this was the only one I could find on the Net.

Also, the Cadfael database is growing nicely on the re-vamped multifandom Otherworlds group. Since my collegues never cared to use it for its original purpose, I changed the name and turned it into a group where I can store original writings, medieval stuff and the likes. But I think I already told so. Never mind, it seems I'm a bit distracted lately.

Yes, he does look like Cadfael should...never have seen the TV series on Australian TV, probably never will as the books don't have a big following here. We miss out on so much good TV because it is believed not enough people will watch it!

I haven't seen the series, either, and to be honest, I'm not all that interested, even though it was filmed in Hungary. But book fans say that they aren't very true to the books, and what few pictures I've seen on the Net, they so don't match my inner image of the characters that it's probably better so. Or else I'd get into inane rants about it as I used to do about the LOTR movies. *g*

I'd probably rant about the TV series being inaccurate too, but I'd still like the chance to see the thing...

As for the LoTR movies, well they've inspired many people to write fanfiction and to read the books. Besides after the awesome scenes of Mt. Doom, Rivendell and Lorien, they aren't all bad.

Well, it's a matter of taste, I guess.:)
But they gave me Boromir, so I'm willing to forgive Peter Jackson a lot - if not everything, not by far.

Boromir, yes well, I always hated him until the movies and we got a lot more sympathic view of Boromir as a good man driven by that bloody Ring to do things widely out of character. Now, I quite like the guy!

I guess PJ fell into every director's trap, produce a saleable, money making movie, that appeals to a wide audience and retains enough of the original to be recognisable. All things considered, all our pet hates put into place, the result could have been much much worse!
