More Original Galactica fic

I've posted chapters 2 and 3 of The Lost Warrior to FF.Net and to
otherworlds_lib. Just in the unlikely case anyone is still interested in the good old original series.
I'm pretty happy with it - even if I'm the only one. I laid a few basics for further stories, in which the political events of this one would return and bite our heroes in the astrum, as it's so eloquently said in the Original BSG. Yep, that old show did have its very own - often fairly ridiculous - vocabulary. I still love it, just as the original Trek would never be replaced in my heart. Sometimes, you just can't beat the classics.
I've read some discussion on some board, where people said that shows like the classic Trek and BSG are out in these days, because our sociopolitical situation is now different. I don't believe in that. The 1960s and 1970s weren't such a happy paradise politically, either - even if younger people who haven't lived in those times love to overlook that fact.
And I don't think that simple things like friendship, loyalty, and yes, even heroics would ever be"out". If simpler concepts wouldn't attract young people, none of those truly harebrained video games would be so successful. The only difference is that said video games don't contain an ethical message. Those old shows did. Even if the deliverance was a little clumsy sometimes and the special effects less shiny.
Somehow, it's the same thing than with the remake of old, black-and-white movies. The technology has made great headway - and yet, I'm not biting my nails while watching the remakes. I did it while watching the old ones. And not just because I was younger. All those sparkly bells and whistles just distract the viewer from the really important things.
Don't misunderstand me - I'm all for great, shiny special effects, because, well, they look good. But I'm not watching any of the movies or TV shows only so that I could whine about the quality of the CGI and whether or not I could pinpoint the moment when something went wrong. Quite frankly, it doesn't bother me a bit. I watch them because of plot, character development... that sort of thing. Which is the reason why I didn't like any of the recent Star Trek movies at all. Among many, many other things.
Okay, I feel a bit better now. It always upsets me when snotty-nosed little upstarst speak bad about the classics they aren't even capable of understand anymore. Yes, I'm being a bitch, so what. I'm old, I'm still sick like a dog, and out of 131 people who - due to FF.Net's statistics - at least took a look at the first chapter of "The Lost Warrior", not a single one could be bothered to toss my poor muse a bone. I think I'm entitled to a little bitchiness. And whining and ranting helps. *g*
Tonight, German TV finally shows "Pirates of the Caribberan" - as usual, at the same time as at least three other things I'd like to see. Thank God for VCRs. I'm very curious, though. Usually, I don't find extremely popular movies matching my taste. But we'll see.
Oh, and by the way! Should I unexpectedly vanish from cyberspace, that won't necessarily mean that I died from old age. I have the sneaking suspicion that my computer screen is planning to leave me in the not too far future. :(

Date: 2006-10-15 08:02 pm (UTC)I hope you enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean. It would feel very strange, I think, seeing it dubbed into German, because so much of it is about Johnny Depp's performance. But have fun!
Thank you!
Date: 2006-10-15 11:07 pm (UTC)...as for "Pirates of the Caribbean" in german - don't. It hurts. If you don't have the dvd, I'll copy it for you so you can really enjoy the movie - it's brilliant!
