This seems to be a lengthy cold. *sighs*
I just hope the doctor would grant me three more days of sick leave next week. With the long weekend (October 23 being an official holiday) I might even get better in that time. I won't produce the list of my various hurts - common cold and bronchitis can have so lovely effects on almost every single body part. Let's just say that it's a crappy thing, all over.
At least I'm not too sick to write. Have posted two more chapters to
otherworlds_lib. I don't really know why I make the effort, as I can't even get the Memory Alpha crowd to take a look. But hey, in case of another PC crash, at least I've got the stuff saved somewhere. Personally, I'm quite happy with the story - even if I'm the only one. But, well, you can't force people to be interested, right?
And it's not just the fact that people aren't interested in the original Galactica anymore since that "reimagined" shit has come out. It's me, for some reason. Would I write the same unimaginative "story" all over again, as a lot of people do out there, with lots of poorly written pr0n, I'm sure I'd be very popular, too.
The dramatic quality crash of SGA fanfic proves the above theory. You can barely find anything else in this fandom but cheep pr0n anymore. The very little genfic that's out there, always features the same two or three characters (whom I happen to violently dislike), and the so-called plots don't even exist. The fandom has reached the level of high school fics, blantant Mary Sues and hair-raising AUs where the characters aren't even in Atlantis, are having a life as high school teachers or disco owners or whatnot and the only common thing with canon characters is their names.
I've stopped to read SGA fic altogether. Sometimes I still check out what new is there on
kavtolanon and älj user=welovezelenka>, but most of the time, all I find is immature gushing about the prettiness of the actors or pr0n. I just can't care anymore.
So, I've returned to Original Galactica fanfic. Sure, there's a lot of crap as well, but the fandom did have a few excellent writers. Anna and Karen, just to name the two best ones of them. Sure, the By Your Command archive, being a slash site, has a great deal of crap posted, too. But Anna, Karen and a few other authors have made the effort to do a great deal of research, to work out intricate plotlines, and they write well.
Karen's site, while mostly dedicated to her own fanfiction, contains a great deal of pretty pictures to the original show, an extensive terminology of the strange measure units used in Galactica, and, of course, great stories. From a time when Starbuck was still a guy, poor Boomer wasn't an evil Cylon sex machine, and the costumes were still pretty.
Okay, that helped. Back to writing. Even if it's useless.

Date: 2006-10-14 11:40 am (UTC)I wish I could remember the original BSG. I know that I watched it as a kid, but I have no memory of anything specific that happened. I haven't seen the remade version at all.

Original BSG is something that has to be cherished. I know it was a bit cheesy at times, but it had a sense of wonder none of these modern series, focused on special effects and unnecessary sex can produce.
Come visit me one day. We'll get pogácsa (something much better than popcorn), stuff the DVD's in the player and drool over the wonderful costumes (the helmets looked like the Egyptian pharaohs' headpieces) and the pretty pilots. The show had them in every possible colouring. They even had a fat pilot, and that's something you don't see often in American shows. Fat people are usually considered a lower life form.
