49 days left...

... and today is a very significant day. Today my beloved grandfather would be 122 years old. We were exactly 60 years apart, save for the 8 days between the 9th and 17th October, and until my 11th year - when he, sadly, died - he was the most important person in my life.

He was a wonderful human being with fairly odd personal quirks; the best father figure one can imagine, which is why I never felt bereft by the fact that I never knew my father. He loved me very much, preferred me to my male cousins and opened my eye for the world and its wonders. Grandma was amazing, too, and Mum is great, those of you who met her could bear witness, but Grandpa was the defining factor in my childhood. Hard to believe that he's been gone for half a century already.

Accidentally, my good friend jenn_calaelen also has her birthday today; this particular day must stand under a lucky star, as we say here in Hungary. So, let's celebrate then!
