Did I really need a new interest?
Jan. 24th, 2015 06:14 pmThe answer is a firm and resounding NO! With the emphasis on HELL, NO! So it's not really surprising that I've picked up one, is it? I've started to look into steampunk because of references in various fandoms, and bam! I'm hooked. The visuals are really gorgeous. It's a good thing that they're practically impossible to describe properly, or else I'd already have started another giant writing project. Or two. Or three.
Sherlock would be amazing in such settings. Or Torchwood. Or a Dr Who story set on Pete's World, where they have at least airships. Good that the whole thing is way too complicated for me. I've got enough unfinished mammooth projects already.
For the record, I've watched the short films "Airlords of Airia" and "Arms Race" and a third one (I forgot the title) about two Victorian kids finding a giant squid spaceship (or whatnot) on the beach. It was fun.
Otherwise, I wrote a good chunk of Chapter 16 of "Kansas 2" today and a tiny bit of the first chapter of the Torchwoodgate sequel. Lots to type up for the next week.
On the less joyful news, the woman who's moved into the flat above ours a couple of years ago suddenly discovered that she doesn't like the cable of our satellite receiver running down the house wall next to her window. The dratted cable has been hanging there for the last 20 years; nobody ever protested. We did get the permit for it, of course. I hope she doesn't manage to make us remove it. I need my German fix - it's my way not to forget the language, and besides, why does it bother her so much? We never made any official complain when her stupid kid was playing video games above our heads on Saturdays and Sundays and during every holiday, so that we could "enjoy" the peng, peng effects for hours.
Some people really ought to be forcibly moved to lonely islands.
