30-Day Fanfic Meme - Days 4 and 5
Jul. 22nd, 2011 10:26 amDay 4 – Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
Not really. Although various characters tend to take over the story all the time. See below.
Day 5 –If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
Oh, yes! The very first of such characters was Elladan, when I was writing my first Tolkienfic. I was going to do the Aragorn/Boromir cliché *shudders from the very thought now*, but Elladan marched into the Hall of Fire, caught a glimpse of Boromir and dragged him off to his bed. I've been writing Elladan/Boromir ever since - not that many people would appreciate it.
The other such "invader" character was Minamoto no Yoshitsune. He was supposed to make one brief appearance in the first epsiode of "Travellers' Tales", my Dr. Who/Torchwood crossover series. Before I know what was happening, the entire story was about him and Tosh having an affair and a child together, and he ended up travelling with Tosh, Tomoe and the 9th Doctor aboard the TARDIS.
I usually allow such characters to take over, because it results in a much better story than originally planned.
