New beginnings
Aug. 24th, 2005 09:49 pmJust some disconnected thoughts about the recent days...
So, school started today again. No kids yet, but we've already spent half the day in. No Internet yet at school. Shit. Also, although I let every one of my students pass last year, I was selected for the commission who'll test the ones who did not pass. Double shit. I hate doing that. Well, at least my curriculum seems very nice for this year. Until someone screws it up for some higher reason, as always. Ah, well.
Bought the new VCR/DVD-player combi last week. It works nicely. If I could only figure out how to put the channels to the places I prefer them. I really, really don't want the local district channel on one of the prominent places and good German channels on place 36 or so. Alas, reading through the instructions and doing exactly the thing they told me to do, didn't help a bit. Maybe I'll need to invite some technically savvier person over to help me. Shit, I hate being so dependent.
In the meantime, it'll still take at least three more years until we switch to the frigging Euro. And Amazon and the other big online shops still don't accept Hungarian currency. Well, I don't blame them. If I were them, I wouldn't accept it, either. But that means still no Andromeda or Queer As Folk or original Battlestar Galactica on DVD for me. I hope the English Videothek where I used to order my Star Trek and B5 tapes still exists. Will have to check. They might be willing to order DVDs now. Unless they've gone bankrupt since I was there the last time.
Checked Hungarian TV programme for the upcoming 2 weeks. No Queer As Folk so far. I hate them. Instead we have endless reruns from Psi Factor - a good show, but loses from its attraction after the 123rd time - The Sopranos and The Hunger. Not to mention completely idiotic slapstic shows that could drive a person up the walls. Did I mention I hate them?
Well, at least RTL Club (another Hungarian channel) starts Lost this week. Maybe when I watch the show regularly, I'll understand what's going on. Albeit I already live in fear from the Hungarian dubbing.
I tried my luck with the new series shown on VOX, the one titled The Guardian. I thought I would like it. I don't. Cross-references to the Liberty Avenue were funny, since I was watching QAF shortly before, but I can't warm up to the characters.
The good TV news: PAX TV will bring an all-evening program about Frere Roger on Saturday. I'm looking forward to reliving fond memories of my youth. And Animal Planet will show Living With Wolves on September 11. I'm looking forward to that one, too. To write about werewolves, learning about real wolves might be useful.
Also, VOX starts CSI - New York on Monday. I'm curious. I liked the original, I wasn't too moved by the Miami version (mostly because I can't stand David Caruso), although the cases were very interesting. Well, we'll see. I don't know any actors in this one, and I do like Law and Order - New York. Not that the two would have anything to do with each other. But I like shows with actors I haven't seen before. Makes the show more interesting for me.
BTW, after rewatching several QAF-episodes that I've recorded, I realized why I hate Justin so much. He is a snotty, self-absorbed, irresponsible teenager who doesn't care for anyone else but himself: what he wants, what he needs, regardless what it costs for the others. He intruded every aspect of Michael's life, and Debbie's behaving around him like a besotted idiot, instead of standing behind her own son. I'm dealing with that sort of snotty teenager on a daily basis. I dislike that sort of behavior in real life just as much. Which might be the real reason why I became a Brian/Michael shipper after about half an episode - or less.
Okay, I probably need a good closing sentence here. I don't have one. So I'll just shut up now.
