Operation Balcony, part 3
Apr. 19th, 2026 09:24 pmWe put everything back onto the sideboard and the shelves. Needless to say, neither us remembered how all that trash had been arranged, and I forgot to take a photo, so I couldn't quite squeeze everything back into the same place. Of course, I might have piled up my reserve sugar packs differently, so that the available place wasn't quite the same, either, but that can't be helped. I won't unpack 60+ pounds of sugar if I don't have to.
After that, I rested briefly, only to go on with the cooking shortly thereafter. Fortunately, chicken paprikas is a fairly easy dish to make, especially if I cheat with the mashed potatoes, aka make them from powdered potatoes. The other advantage of this is that I don't need to worry whether the potatoes are thoroughly cooked, which they often aren't when I make the thing from the scratch. I don't know where they keep the poor little veggies, but many of them simply refuse to become soft, no matter how long one cooks them.
Anyway, this left me enough time to cut up all the rolls I had bought for making breadcrumbs. Yes, those can be bought ready-made (and are much cheaper that way), but the ones you can buy always become very hard and scratchy when we make Schnitzel or Topfenknödel or generally anything that needs to be breaded. So hard and scratchy that Mum can't eat them. So we make them ourselves, usually from days-old bread or rolls. And besides, they taste much better.
After a late lunch, we used the last warm day promised to us and went for a walk. It was really pleasant, even though I was fairly tired by then. So I took a nap; then I got up again and finished knitting mini scarf #5 and seaming pot holder #3. Alas, not time or brainpower was left for some writing, but even so, I'm fairly content with my progress.
