The day started rater unspectacularly. I went to Röltex, which is a shop chain for sewing supplies, and found my much-needed red stitching thread. I promptly bought all 5 of them, plus a white one, which ruined my crafting budget, but at least I'm not in danger of running out of thread when a bunny is only half-done.

After that, I went to Lidl and did the grocery shopping. Then I made lunch - of all things ready-made, like the pork knuckles and the potato dumplings - and we rested after our late lunch and watched some telly.

In the middle of this, the intercom sounded. It turned out to be Danny, Heidi's son, who came to congratulate Mum to her birthday. He lives at Lake Balaton but came up to the capital for work-related stuff and made a detour to visit the matriarch of the family. *g*

Mum was over the Moon, of course. I was happy to see him, too; he's a nice kid, although calling him a "kid" while he's over 40 and married with two kids of his own is a bit silly. He stayed for about an hour, helped me to set the stupid mediabox so that I'll be able to watch YouTube videos on the big telly screen in the future, and made promises to get me the "Strange New Words" Star Trek series... somehow. (If he can't I'll try to order the DVDs via the Bestsellers English bookstore, assuming they still do that for their customers). I never knew he was a sci-fi nerd and a Trekkie, too. It turned out, we both prefer the original series...

All in all, it was a very nice afternoon. I hope it won't take another year to repeat it.

I've still not watched Strange New Worlds.
It's on a streaming service I don't subscribe to and the DVDs are super expensive. 😶

I'm not subscribed to any streaming services (because I'm too stupid for such things), but if SNW proves worth it, I might buy the DVDs, regardless of the price.

So cute that you call your relative a kid. My nieces and nephews look like kids to me, even though they have successfully established lives much better than I did while young. And police officers look like babies. Like they’re twelve years old.

We are looking at the younger generation from the ivory tower that's the wisdom of our age. 😃

Sounds like a good day. Hope your Mum has a happy birthday and many more to come. We are looking forward (not) to frigid temperatures this weekend, can't wait until summer.

I think I quit watching Star Trek when I wasn´t even twenty thanks to being married and having to cope with children (my own amd those in school). Saw Star Trek Beyond, liked it and forgot about the series again.

it´s sort of funny to call a grown man a child, but in comparison to our age he might even be one :))

I hate the JJ Abrams films with the passion of a thousand burning sons. But I'm a die-hard fan of the Original Series, so that's understandable, I guess.

That was a very lovely surprise. I didn't remember that yesterday was the big day, so I'm late but, "Happy Birthday" to your Mum. She is an inspiration to us all.
