Today I nurtured my shopping addiction. I rode the bus to the Campona shopping centre - the only place within reach with a newsletter's that sells German crossword puzzle books. Alas, only the huge ones (why keep the Din A/5 format that's practical and can be put into a handbag when they can keep the large ones for which one needs a dining table to spread out, right?) but at least they have them. They're outrageously expensive, compared with the original price that can be seen in Euros on the front page, but at least available. I bought two; that will have to last till Christmas or so.

Unfortunately for my purse (and fortunately for my mental state), the Campona shopping center also has a Tedi, a Kik, a Pepco, a stationery shop and a relatively new "Creative Hobby" shop. I visited them all, and found extremely cute laser-cut felt figures at Tedi and the "Creative Hobby" shop, as well as some coloured lace trimmings and other such stuff.

I also visited the huge Tesco on the ground floor, where I found very nice, peeled pistachios. Again, outrageously expensive, but at least available. I bought one 100-gram-package and put it into the freezer. They won't become any cheaper before Christmas, after all.

I then went to the bank, also situated in said shopping center, tried to find a new leather watch strap for my 80+ year old wrist watch; of course, they didn't have the kind I'd have needed. This was not my first attempt, mind you. I'll have to find some leather somewhere and make a strap myself if nothing else helps.

Leaving the shopping center I rode the bus back - five stops longer back, in fact, because I needed to go to the Remo craft supply shop, too. I've run out of the pale apricot hart felt that I use as page base for the dollhouse books and needed more of the same. I took a stripe with me for comparison and it was a good thing I did as they had two different hues of the colour and so I could buy the right one. Needless to say that even more laser-cut felt figures joined the party...

Coming home, we watched some telly, ate leftovers and I packed the kitchen together, so that the exterminators that come three times a year, profilactically, can spray the hidden corners, too. Guess who didn't come? Right; the exterminators. Mum phoned them, and they said they had said August 26 both times she had called them previously. Mum swears they said August 25; actually, that was what she told me after the previous two calls. She was very angry, and so was I. I can't stand unreliable people. So the kitchen will remain in refugee camp mode for another day. God, I'm so fed up with this!

Not much else got done today because I was tired and fell asleep in the afternoon for two hours. But tomorrow I'll give these condensed milk cookies a try. Because my mental health requires some baking - it has been too long! - and I need to do it before the heat returns (presumably with the worst storm of the year) on Thursday.

You don't make a baking video in real time ...
That's super boring to watch.

Well, I always fast-forward those parts. But the cookies weren't worth the effort. They taste of... nothing really, even though I added some freeze-dried raspberries to the mix. But at least the condensed milk has been used up.

Shopping for craft supplies and crossword books is the sort of shopping that is, as you say, balm for the soul.

I'm sorry the cookies have no real flavour β€” but at least you didn't open the condensed milk especially to make them.
