Now that the front pages are finished (see yesterday's entry), I've switched to the back covers. They were partially done already; that means, I had the floor, the sky and a tree sewn on for each and a cloud for each made but not fixed yet. I've been hesitating between adding a dog house or a bird house next, and today I decided that it would be a bird house.

I've cut out the necessary shapes, did some sewing, added a cavity to each tree, for the squirrels that will be added later and sewn on one of the logs(?) on which the bird houses will stand. The hard part will come tomorrow, when I'll have to add Velcro dots to both the tree cavities and the bird house holes, so that the respective animals can be fixed there. Sewing through Velcro is horrible. Sewing through self-adhesive Velcro is hell. But it has to be. I'll also have to add the corresponding Velcro dots to the squirrels, birds, hedgehogs, etc, that will be on their merry way on this page (it's supposed to be the back yard of the dollhouse), so I feel sorry for my poor, soon-to-be-abused fingers in advance. *sigh*

Aside from the crafting progress, I also did the grocery shopping in the morning, and we had Apfelstrudel again. The Alpenfest version is so good, as long as Lidl has it I'll probably buy it once a week; all I have to do with it is to put it into the oven, which is the easiest way of baking I can imagine.

Speaking of baking, I'm mildly frustrated that I couldn't actually get to it for effing weeks. There are at least half a dozen recipes that I'm dying to try, but first it was so very hot, then there was so much housework, culminating in the carpet cleaning this week, and now that the weather behaves, I still have to put everything back in place. Including all the china Mum has insisted of washing up for the last three days - and it still isn't finished! I wish I could do things that I'd like to do at least from time to time before I get mad out of sheer frustration.

In her younger days your mum must have been a housework tornado. Apfelstrudel is on of my favourite deserts. I buy a frozen one each Christmas, to replace the traditional English Christmas pudding that my stomach will no longer digest. I have to limit my purchase to once a year, however, as I find it way too 'more-ish' and could eat way more than is good for my waistline.

'more-ish' just about sums it up. *g*

It's not so bad, actually. I've decided to cheat and not to sew on the smaller patches of self-adhesive Velcro. The glue on it is industrial strength, and I can always add a drop of superglue if that doesn't prove to be enough.
