Alpenfest style days at Lidl
Aug. 18th, 2025 06:43 pmNo, it doesn't have anything to do with the festival in Michigan. It is simply a brand that offers various kinds of ready-made food, from Wiener Schnitzel through Spätzle and Semmelknödel to crumble cakes, Apfelstrudel, pre-cooked pig knuckle and dozens more. Lidl has these things twice or three times a year, tops, so when it's that time again, I usually spend way too much money there. I just love this style of food.
Today I bought a package of pig knuckles, two packages of fresh Spätzle, a box of Semmelknödel, a cherry crumble cake, an Apfelstrudel and a bag of potato balls filled with spinach and mozzarella. Most of those things were either frozen or needed to be kept cold, so both fridge and freezer are quite full at the moment, especially as I also bought haddock filets in dough coating. So full that I had to bake up the Apfelstrudel right away because I couldn't squeeze it into the freezer. But that's okay. It's absolutely delicious, and tomorrow we'll have it for lunch, after some tomato soup. Well... what's left of it. We've ate half of it for dessert today. *g*
Anyway, it was a great shopping tour, even though I had to get up an hour earlier and I didn't find the announced cheesy pretzels. Coming home I baked up the Apfelstrudel, then I worked a bit on my dollhouse quiet book project. The little bushes of the front pages now have somewhat oversized berries (plastic pearls, actually) in red and orange, respectively. That was finicky work. I also added tiny stripes of lace to the windows. I think they look quite nice. Now I only have to make up my mind whether I want to add chimneys or not, since there's no way to make the disappearing and reappearing smoke that I originally wanted. The house is too big for that, and the narrow stripe of sky above it is already full enough with two clouds and the sun. Ah, well.
Not much else was done today. Mum decided that we need a day of rest (sort of) before we start the big packing action. The man who cleans our wall-to-wall carpets once a year is due on Thursday, so we'll have to empty the rooms as well as we can, considering that the corridor floors are still not finished and the workers might show up on Thursday, too, in which case we can't put out anything next to our entrance door. That promises to be... interesting, as the kitchen is basically the only room where no carpets will be cleaned, and it's definitely not big enough to transfer everything there. We'll see.
Added later:
YouTube seems to suddenly have developed a dislike towards my main PC. The vids start like always, then stop after a minute and a half and nothing happens. No problems detected when on my tablet, so this must have to be something with my aged operations system; or with the PC itself. Very annoying!
Oh, and before I forget:
Happy Birthday,
wanderingmogwai! I hope you are having a lovely time!

Date: 2025-08-18 05:26 pm (UTC)Oh ... hope the Alpen-whatever thing will happen here soon as well, be it at Aldi, Lidl or Penny. *lol*
At least Aldi has pulled pork on offer on Friday. :-)

Date: 2025-08-18 06:00 pm (UTC)Youtube has been doing that to me this evening so it might be a glitch with the site itself, not your computer.

Date: 2025-08-18 07:31 pm (UTC)Same here. It was fine for a bit, then went wonky again. I was trying to listen to one of my music mixes, the first track wouldn't play at all, several stopped halfway through... So annoying.

Date: 2025-08-18 08:27 pm (UTC)It's working for me at the moment, and I haven't restarted my computer at all, so maybe whatever was acting up has been fixed.

No real changes here, except I cannot do what I did before I went on the oxygen machine, so my house is now a disaster. I have to avoid using most electrical appliances because of the machine, such as my hair dryer, toaster, and the robot vacuum cleaner, which always made cleaning the floors so easy. :0( Now, it is even more work to sweep and mop, which means I am more in need of oxygen. Heh-heh. Other than the frustration, I am doing well.

Date: 2025-08-19 11:24 am (UTC)Good luck with the carpet cleaning — you are more organised than us, ours only tends to get done about every 3 or 4 years :)
