To start with the most important part: we actually made it to the café! Yay! And they even had freshly made butter croissants, the kind that Mum loves. So, that was a nice start into the day. We made two rests on the benches along the way, sitting in the nice, warm sunshine, and Mum enjoyed herself tremendously, even though she was a bit exhausted afterwards.

Having parked Mum at home, I went back to Lidl, to buy potatoes for my Easter bread dough - and creme freche because we've run out of it. Of course, I ended up with a lot more than just these two items (as usual). They had raspberries, which I absolutely had to buy, since those are the only fruits save for bananas that Mum can eat without butchering them first. And I used my extra coupons on the Lidl app on my way too smart phone to snatch some gift cheese and drastically reduced ice-cream-on-a-stick. Not the brand I usually buy, but one shouldn't look into the gift horse's mouth, right?

Back at home, I shared my ice cream with Mum; then I managed a tiny bit of writing before kitchen duty called. I boiled and mashed the potatoes for tomorrow; since I had boiled too much, I made potato salad out of the rest. Tomorrow we'll traditionally eat sardines, which will go well with the potato salad. I'm planning to make Blätterteigpastetchen (also known as vol-au-vents among people who like sounding snobbish) of the other roll of ready-made puff pastry and fill them with a sardine-based filling. I've found a recipe for a crab filling; I'll replace crab meat with sardines and hope for the best. *g*

We had leftovers for lunch; after that I finally brought up the willpower to do some crafty preparations. I cut out the lining for 12 pincushions and also outlined and pinned together the fabric for their outer covers. The idea is to use all those identical hand lotion plastic pots that I didn't have the heart to throw out and turn them into little sewing kits. A couple of weeks ago I had bought some cheap sewing needles and sewing pins at Tedi, and I've got pretty (albeit somewhat useless) little safety needles and a bunch of buttons I can't really use for anything to fill the kits. I'll decorate the pots with bee stickers and label them as "The Little Sewing Bee". That's the plan. We'll see how they turn out. The first step is to make the pin cushions, and I'll be occupied with that for quite some time. But I do have time until December, when the next Christmas fair rolls in.

When all this was done, it was half past six already, so we dropped into our seats in front of the telly to watch the GBBO and "Salvage Hunters", respectively. And that was, basically, my day.

Isn't it? Especially as we managed to do it before all that rain would start.

I love the idea of the wee sewing kits. They sound really cute and I'm sure they'll sell well. Proper croissants, freshly made...I am salivating, just contemplating them.

Croissants, vol-au-vents- I love it! Save that my French is a bit rusty, but things to eat I remember. Mostly.

Glad you and your Mum were able to visit the cafe'! Hah, you finished your Easter baking and crafting and are already starting on Christmas crafts. That's dedication!
