An era comes to end
Apr. 6th, 2025 08:00 pmMy paid account has finally expired, after nearly twenty years. The LJ people generously added first three months, and then another month to it, but it's over now. I understand that they can't afford to do more of this; as long as no giant ads appear on my journal, I can live within the limits.
I also finished the Easter baking by glazing the last biscuits and filling the cookie tins my friends (not all of them but some of them) have brought for this purpose. I feel strangely relieved that it's (mostly) done, but I also feel incredibly tired. Of course, the sudden weather changes might have something to do with that - from 19 to 0 degrees within 36 hours! - but still...
I had originally planned to make some egg baskets today, but I couldn't bring up the energy. So I took two individual naps instead: one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Now I feel vaguely like a human being again.
Mum volunteered to make the meat balls (known as Faschiertes over here), which meant that she made the mix and shaped the little balls; then she was so exhausted that she needed a little lie-down, the poor thing. I fried the Faschiertes, made mashed potatoes (the instant thing, not the real one) and Erbsengemüse, and we still had that sponge cake with Quark-Himbeercreme from yesterday, so it was a proper midday meal, even without a soup.
I also dealt with some official stuff concerning the old insurance (the one we have cancelled), we watched some telly, and now the day is basically over again. Tomorrow I'll have to go to the bank (the shared costs for the building got raised again and I need to give them the new transfer sum), which will probably last fairly long. But there are shops in the little shopping centre that sell crafty stuff, so it's okay. *g*
Note to myself: I need to buy the Easter ham, and some walnut kernels if I get any.

Date: 2025-04-07 02:47 am (UTC)I’m a bit glum over Easter this year. It doesn’t look as though there will be a family get together. Oh well, what can you do?

Date: 2025-04-11 04:42 pm (UTC)My professional account is going to expire soon. I received a couple of free months, and I believe it will be the last time they are going to renew it for free. I hope the ads won't be too intrusive.
I have been baking bread in a bread machine given to me by my sister many years ago, as she no longer wanted it. I have been tweaking a multigrain loaf recipe I found online, trying to get a more rustic, dense loaf, and so far have liked each tweak.
But yesterday's loaf was a flop - in taste (flavorless), crumb (dry), and literally flopped, as its center was sunken an inch!
I found a recipe in the machine's manual for something called a French Multigrain Bread, so I'm going to try that next time.
Hugs to you and Mum!
